In front of you is a big abandoned book. It doesn't look like it belongs to the village… in fact, when you open it, a bunch of golden down feathers flutter out of a few of the pages. *Once again, I never fail to put myself in danger whilst I write these notes. This situation, however, is special; because I finally have a lead on the elusive Tanookiko that is said to haunt areas around the Forest of Beasts.* *Now, where shall I start? With the basics, I suppose.* *Tanookiko, or, Nooks as I hear they refer to each other as for short, are small beasts that stand to about 60 to 121cm-- so, about the size of a small child. They have the appearance of a procyonidae-like creature, sporting rounded ears, large claws, a long, sometimes ringed tail, and most noticeably, markings on their face and back. Their claws are almost always dark colored to match their masked-and-gloved thief look.* *Their faces almost always have bandit-like mask markings around their eyes, plus extra stripes or marks on their cheeks, chin, brow-line or hair-line. Most Tanookiko have scruff along the sides of their heads, plus a tuft of fur on their head, which they can style. Their ears are rounded, and sometimes can be folded. Some also sport some sharp upper fangs or a lower underbite-- showing off how much damage those needle teeth can do.* *Their claws follow suit-- their front paws are large and have nearly knife-like claws! While I'm sure they do damage during melee combat, I hypothesize these are mostly used for gripping and climbing, as they're often reported running vertically up trees. While their back paws tend to be much smaller, the Tanookiko are known to scamper off on all fours as well. A word of warning: watch your belongings within the area, because they're fast and known to swipe anything their claws can snag!*
