#norms
100%. Now is not the time for one-way honoring of norms. Now is the time to use the enemy's infrastructure for your logistics.
Gina Hinjosa call Abigail Spanberger and get some CIA advice on how to ruthlessly right size your Board of Trustees and Board of Regents at the UT system.
We have a democratic governor in Texas:

Gina Hinojosa, who staked her campaign on public education.

The governor appoints university regents, who have been destroying our universities.

This win meaningfully changes things for Texas universities, students, us early career faculty here.

conservatives, who don't think gender exists, only sex, are hostile to transition because they believe it transgresses gender norms but liberals, who believe in the gender =/= sex distinction, but believe sex to be truth, are hostile to transition because they believe it reinforces gender norms

The way you bring people together is via accountability and reform. Otherwise you're just papering over the cracks. You cannot have true unity without accountability and shared norms.
Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face.

It also suits polite, Midwestern scorn norms; this is how you win Iowa and Kansas.

Might delete but there are two broad flavors of transmisogyny.

One is "male-atypical" transmisogyny, based on how much you differ from male gender norms.

The other is "mixed-typicality" transmisogyny, based on differing from male gender norms in some ways and female gender norms in others.

I want Presidential norms made into Law!
Retweet if you're with me!

The teaching, repeating, and embodying of these fundamental norms was allowed to lapse.

Neglecting to adequately communicate the benefits of democratic norms brought us to the brink of disaster.

Our legacy will be measured by the longevity of the new culture of democratic norms that we build, now
For young people who voted for the first time in these elections, do not take the blessing of people accepting election results for granted.

Dems still playing by “norms” while Republicans play at *trying to disenfranchise nonwhite voters* makes me kind of angry.
Anyway, thanks, always some level of fuckery I’ve never thought about before. :(

Aye this is my sense too; it's the demographic that gets allocated a lot of "perpetuate the basic ethical norms of the social order" labour, so of course they are more likely to get angry when those norms are mocked.

everyone gets like. kids teach each other how to behave and share norms. and a lot of their norms are partially created by their parents. so what we have is a big collective averaging and sharing of norms and values. which can be good in some cases, like kids with abusive or cloistered family lives

The allure of monster romance for women usually comes from a desire to feel safe, protected, and loved from dangers like unwanted marriages/abuse. The idea of being so wanted that it supersedes societal norms. Also a desire for 💯 sex.

If this (very old) trope bothers you, its time to look inward 🤷‍♀️

Imagine being locked into a straight jacket of social norms lmao, couldn't be me. I actually enjoy my life for me.

The republic runs almost entirely on norms and its funny, there's often a sense that this is some sort of fatal weakness but what we've seen with our own democracy is that if the norms fail, the written rules will not save you.

It's all norms all the way down.

Secretary Hegseth very personally goes after Rep. Massie, and while tbf Massie isn't exactly well liked in his caucus, that's still outside of traditional norms for a Cabinet secretary as the NYT might put it

The problem with C is not just memory safety but that it’s dogshit type system and engineering norms mean a perfectly respectable thing for a libc password hash function to do is return “*” when the entered password is more than 256 characters long

It will take collective effort to reestablish norms so that authentic anti-corruption work is no longer spun or perceived as politically biased.
We must hold human individuals accountable when their organisations commit crimes.

My discussion at the Cyber Security Nordic Conference 2026.

'Institutions do not make decisions. People with disproportionate control rights within them do.'

Wasn‘t he one of the first pols to bring up the strange relationship between Trump and Natalie Harp too? I appreciate his ability to recognize we can’t decorum and norms our way out of this.

Strongly recommend everyone call their Senators and say “I want impeachments, I want convictions, the norms mean nothing if there are no consequences for breaking them, your constituent wants you to drag these corrupt losers to hell and if current Dem leadership won’t do it, get new leadership”
November 5, 2026 at 3:05 PM
The one thing I haven't heard Dem leadership prioritize is codifying all the presidential norms we assumed would prevail. This is #1 for me: prevent another trump.
