but the documentation customs provides to the public asks for authentication by the health authority specifically. a plain old notarisation is insanely expensive but I'd at least know how to do that

as someone who recently had reason to look into this process, the German government appears to be incapable of comprehending in its official documentation on this process that other countries sometimes just don't have an equivalent process of notarisation

So, § 11 (2) BtMG allows the government to regulate the import of controlled substances by executive order.

This is handled in BtMAHV, which specifies exemptions for travellers in § 15 (1) item 2. While it mentions the requirement for a prescription, it does not explicitly mention notarisation.

The need for notarisation apparently follows from INCB recommendations that German customs follow at their discretion.

To get this done properly, you apparently need to first bring your doctor’s letter to a notary public, and then in a second step get an apostille from the DFAT.

Apple should add a “I choose to sell my soul for notarisation” option to their developer program. When enabled, it will auto accept any agreement they throw at me, just so I can keep their notarisation services from failing requests due to some agreement I failed to agree to.

And a fee that scales with the size of the round while the recital stays the same length means the charge rises with a company's ambition, for identical work.

Germany has already shown the requirement is movable: online notarisation for GmbH formation has been permitted since August 2022.

Alternative stores now exist and work, though apps still pass through Apple’s “notarisation.” Imperfect and contested, but moving toward the user.
Google is moving the other way.

notarisation is easily the least reliably part of my ci pipeline and by a significant margin too

Apple’s Notarisation requirement means current Mac software installers might not run smoothly on macOS Catalina unless developers update them.

Particularly galling that their notarisation service went down for a bit last weekend. So we just had to kick sand for a few hours

I’m super thrilled with the Forgejo action I asked Claude to build for me. It builds a Wails app, notarises it with Apple’s notarisation service, and pushes the signed artefacts to S3. What would take half a day to setup can now be dropped into a new project whenever I have the need. Amazing.

Neat little build scripts make me happy. This one makes 3 different @godotengine.org builds, archives them, sends the MacOS one to notarisation, waits for the result and then submits everything to the right depot on @steampowered.com.

Notarisation worked on first try. This bodes well for a cheeky little Saturday of making builds.

I understand that code signing and even notarisation have a purpose. Haven't seen a virus in decades, after all. I've published on many platforms that require complicated submission and testing procedures. That's all good.

Happy to report code signing is still a pain in 2024. Now with added notarisation nightmare.

Cross-border verification of company existence still requires physical, jurisdiction-specific documents, including extracts, translations, notarisation, and often Hague apostilles.
