When pain relief was new there were folks who opposed it saying Eve's punishment for eating the apple was to bear children in suffering, so it's un-Christian to take the pain out of labor and childbirth.
I myself was happy to have had the option of an epidural & I get Novacain at the dentist too

Nitrous. It's the only right answer for an appointment that long. Or twilight sleep, which I think is some kind of light injected drug (demorol or something?) And it once took them something like 9 injections of novacain for me because the nerve they were aiming at apparently takes a weird turn.

can't handle the nerve block shot they use to "fix" the Novocain in place so it doesn't wear off quickly. It uses epinephrine, which can cause issue for people with POTS, panic disorders, etc. If you can't do that shot, you'll likely need to re-up the Novacain a few times during the procedure. But..

i’ve had 11 or so baby teeth pulled so I get that it’s like a more intense version of that, but novacain never has worked on me (i got shitty teeth genetics and anesthetic genetics from my father) so it’s always been horrific.

Well, parents with no dental coverage are far from ok with it...giving young children novacain or using gas so the procedure is done has consequences and barbaric knowing we've done it more effectively over 30 years..
