It's the lycra basically. But in general plastic(nylone, polyester etc) reverts. It wants to go back to being oil. It's a HUGE issue for fabric archivists. Whereas natural fibers (cotton, wool etc) degrade. As long as you avoid sunlight and oxygen you're ok.

(Bought the car for super cheap, will be both my daily driver and my ice racing vehicle for the wscc road legal class). Ive jumped the car, and it will run fine, but as soon as those jumper cables are dissconnected, the car runs poor the dies. Is it die to an alternator issue? Currnetly has a shoelace for a belt with lots of tension so alternator is spinning well. Another thing ive noticed, is before the belt blew out, the car would die then restart upon hitting bumps in the road. Is that a fuel pump or just the wires going to the fuel pump? Hauled to to my place yesterday, tried to get it to start, it statted fine but wont stay running without a boost. Any help would be awesome, thanks. I went to start the car and itll run then stop, itll run for about 2 to 3 second. Any help? Update... theres a short somewhere... i turn the key and horn goes off without me pressing it. Not exited. Anyone have an idea of what issues are to be expected? I also already tested fuel pump relay, new pump, fuel pressure, its all good, spark is good (same timing as before old fuel pump died). Before horn syarted going off with key on, it wassputtering, starting then shutting off. I put intake hose back on and it ran for a while. Anyone able to help me with this, id be really really appreciative. Its starting to irritate me a bit.
