It was a guidepost for me when I was stumbling through figuring out my masculinity. I just kept coming back to it trying to answer questions, because it resonated with who I was becoming.

This seems like an excellent reason to set up a Ghost Supper, as I'm in community right now with my Elders.

The following two perspectives provide two glimpses into the Ottawa (Odawa) tradition and culture of commemorating ancestors during annual Ghost Suppers, held annually during the first week of Novembe...

Efforts by the Odawa, Chippewa, and Ottawa are bringing back the Arctic grayling to the waters of Michigan decades after it was wiped out by over-fishing and pollution, and the tribes are managing it in the teeth of climate change. #environment

@Kolvet I officially hate everything about this monstrosity being passed off as a Presidential Center. Land acknowledgments might just be the gayest thing Democrats do.

"Derived from the design of First Nations canoes, Makinaw boats were popular fishing vessels used in Odawa Mnis (Manitoulin Island) before the Second World War. From 1845 to 1939, these boats were built by five generations of Ojibwe, Odawa, and Pottawatomi (Anishnaabe) makers."

Can we get back to the subject at hand, your fury at US behavior outside the US? This is a good dodge but just a distraction on your part. My ex was Odawa Nation, his mother a prominent activist. I promise you I know 1000x more about that than you do, directly from the people affected.

Daphne Odjig (1919-2016) was was a Canadian First Nations artist of Odawa-Potawatomi-English heritage. Her paintings are often characterized as Woodlands Style or as the pictographic style. Odjig fused traditional Indigenous pictographic styles with 20th-century European modernist movements.

OK but it would make a lot more sense to me as a non-religious American to see a tribute to the Council of the Three Fires - the Potawatomi, Ojibwe and Odawa tribes. The Council indicates the sophistication of these native groups from this geographic area (rather than superstition of the conquerers)

And the city took it down 3 days later, along with 2 other columbus statues throughout the city

It's not Chicago, but Zhegagoynak (Potawatomi), Zhigaagong (Ojibwe), Zaagawaang (Odawa), Šikaakonki (Myaamia, or Miami), Shekâkôheki (Sauk), Sekākoh (Menominee) and Gųųšge honąk (Ho-Chunk). #FuckColumbus

🔆 Chicago is the traditional homeland of the Council of the Three Fires: the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi Nations. Several other Tribes, including the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Sac, and Fox, have called the Chicago area home, too.

Rogers Park plays a unique role: it lies within the "Indian Boundary Lines".

Chicago is the traditional homelands of the Anishinaabe peoples, or the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations. It has been home to more indigenous peoples over thousands of years. I encourage all of us to take time today to learn more. Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!
