Being diabetic, classic comfort food is usually off-limits. But one evening last week, when my blood sugar was pretty low, I allowed myself a small veggie hot pizza, only 8 inches. First pizza in years; hell, first bread in ages. It was heaven, and it didn't mess my blood sugar up that bad.

The one time I "toured" a sugar processor during Doors Open, they didn't let us anywhere near the sugar they were processing. Just the mountain of sugar (still to be cleaned) that had been dumped off the ships and their sugar museum (kinda depressing because mostly slavery).

Much more than we give them credit for. My cat appointed herself my uncle's diabetes alert cat when she was a kitten. I think she could smell if his blood sugar was off, and she'd jump on him and bite his nose and cheeks until he tested his sugars and did something about it. Kept him alive 12 years
