Happy Midweek friends… this is my favorite flycatcher, the Alder. Simply put, his call is “Free beer, free beer”. Now that’s my kind of bird!
Center left, perched lokking left with back to camera, sits an Alder Flycatcher, sometimes confused with the simar looking Willow flycatcher. Their distictibe calls are what separate the two. While the Alder calls for “free beer”, the Willow calls “Fitz bew” perhaps to bring him a beer. Neither one actually produces beer, but, they make an interesting pair. In nonbreeding season, both bird’s are refered to as “Trail’s” flycatcher, primarily becaise neither one is willing to divulge their identity until mating season arrives. Fun birds!

Happy #Wrensday friends, from the always heard, yet seldom seen Winter Wren. Caught this fellow in October '24 but have been hearing them on nearly every hike since.
Winter Wren is a small stubby, short-tailed wren brown overall with barring on belly, tail and wings. Paler below.

Trumpeter Swans of Ohio tend to have coral-colored necks and heads, due to the large concentration of iron found in the waters off the shores of Lake Erie. A few Canada Geese can be seen in and around this small flock.

From Allaboutbirds.org, The Lesser Yellowlegs is a dainty and alert "marshpiper" that occurs in shallow, weedy wetlands and flooded fields across North America during migration. It's smaller with a shorter, more needlelike bill than the Greater Yellowlegs, but otherwise looks very similar.
