This literally did not happen. No children were “lost.” The entire thing stems from a willful misreading of a DHS OIG report.

The guy testifying doesn’t know the exact date the investigation was open. But I do. The DOJ OIG probe was opened 1/25/2021 (left), and the “investigations unit” was opened by Garland in June 2021 (right). 2/

Regardless, this is an administrative process. Typically, the OIG would engage in a lengthy investigative process with the ability to contest the findings but now that Trump can just fire any OIG he wants, they're job is on the line to come to a predetermined outcome here in violation of the law.
