They probably wouldn't have made these assignments, but still, I'm thinking of the Boltinoff SHAZAM as by Haney and Dorfman on scripts, maybe Cockrum (briefly) on the art.

Kubert? Kanigher and Thorne? Redondo?

Kirby. Scripts by Evanier & Oleck, art by Beck, Heck and Spiegle?

Neal Adams covered Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love 2 (1971). Tony DeZuniga splashed it, over a Sy Reit/Jack Oleck script.

What Ditko did was hugely transformative and shouldn't in any way be dismissed. But he was working with a foundation, and that foundation came from Kirby (and Simon and maybe Oleck).

And that foundation is legitimately still there in the character.

Like I said, not solo creation, at all.

...earlier version of with Joe Simon, and maybe Jack Oleck.

That pitch was apparently accepted, and Kirby began to draw a story. But the gig was pulled, and the concept reassigned to Steve Ditko, who drew a very different story in which few of the surface details of the Kirby version survive.

"This is Garrison Keillor, broadcasting from the edge of infinity, where all the civilians are radioactive, all the soldiers are devoid of human emotion, and all the lab animals are forced to bear silent witness to this tragic spectacle!"
