Finally finished that Lilith Soft OC I was talking about the other day, Akiza Ogata, an Omyoji Butler. I mostly made her because I wanted a foil to Shiki Reika, so she’s got a tomboy attitude and grew up in the states. Maybe should’ve made her sword thicker…

Warhammer Fantasy elves are specifically "Turkish, Persian, Japanese samurai Omyoji" in the design notes. They're the Oriental Fantasy Mashup faction when Nippon and Cathay came and went in the 90's.

Not too surprisingly, Warhammer Fantasy's had almond-eyed Xianxia elves since the 80's, thanks to designer Jes Goodwin!

From a Yin Yang island (that brings BALANCE to the world's flow of magic!), ride dragon & phoenix, character based script, worshiping a Hindu/Tantric mandala of gods!

So Warhammer elves have always been the anime shaw brothers samurai omyoji faction, bringing almond eyed yin yang dragon phoenix wisdom to the hyper-european humans.

Design notes mention Turkish elements too.

Very stylish to contrast the villains very proudly declaring their suicide mission with the hero answering his subordinate sorcerer that they can prioritize not dying over 'honor'.

Empyreal Cabinet is Ghost in the Shell with Omyoji, or Orion present day!

Y'all should know the reason I picked this one up is 'cause there's an extremely Nanami-coded Omyoji (the haggard look here is 👌) in this who is 100% shippable with the kind MC. 👀
A stressed out looking man with short dark hair and eyeglasses. A man in a green long-sleeved shirt holding up a collapsed man in a suit in the doorway. "Mr. Harima?!" The man with the eyeglasses with his head on the other man's shoulder. "Are you okay, Mr. Harima?!"

The author Evan Dicken grew up with Ursula K LeGuin and has already published multiple wuxia ninja omyoji samurai novels set in the Age of Sigmar and Legend of the Five Rings worlds.

So Warhammer Fantasy Cathay is in experienced hands that have written characters from high-context cultures well.
Goonhammer Reviews: Shade of Khaine, by Evan Dicken by Jay "Lorehunter" Kirkman | Sep 05 2025 Getting By with a Little Help from Her Friends Malaneth may by the main character of the story, but hers is a tale very much enriched by the supporting cast Dicken weaves for her. From Splendid the Ogor to anarchist trapmaker Stromund Goldless, voice-in-her-head Mistress Sybelline to friend-turned-enemy-turned-friend Xarissa the Shadowstalker, she has no lack of company along the way. Splendid was an interesting contrast deserving of a mention, a brute savage of a gourmand who was amiable and charming (as Ogors go). While I enjoyed how he was written, he didn't quite capture the same element of other-ness that Adrian Tchaikovsky did so masterfully with On the Shoulders of Giants (review here). Splendid is a character who happens to be an Ogor, while Tchaikovsky's Slobda felt more like an Ogor character. When Tchaikovsky's very human lead character notes that his Ogor companion was "a child of a different god entirely," you feel that in a way I didn't really pick up on in Shade of Khaine. There's one more steady companion who has a significant impact on Malaneth, yet never actually appears in the novel. As Dicken reveals in an early passage, Malaneth still dreamt of Gotrek Gurnisson. The Slayer hung like a stone around her neck, dragging her into a sea of shouting violence, rune glittering, his axe as bloody as any Khainite altar. He cleaved her memory like a blade. There was a time before she had met Gotrek... sure of her purpose, her duty, herself. Then, she had been set upon that damnable Slayer and everything had stopped making sense. That's 'cause sword flying dragon phoenix riding Eastern fiction had been adapted to European fairy elf 'celtic' fiction for at least 400 years. GW writers, Del Toro making Hellboy Nuada are in the know, but some audience just assume elves were always omyoji samurai.

"Biographer Humphrey Carpenter mentions that as an undergraduate at Oxford Tolkien bought Japanese prints for his rooms; but such prints were popular at the time..."

I feel "Mr. Father of western Fantasy collected manga in college" is a pretty dang big influence on Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien by Humphrey Carpenter. Carpenter mentions that as an undergraduate at Oxford Tolkien bought Japanese prints for his rooms; but such prints were popular at the time, and do not seem to have had much influence on his own art except perhaps to suggest to him, for works such as Glorund Sets Forth to Seeh Turin [47], a simplification of natural forms and the use of flat colour for pattern effect rather than for modelling. Carpenter also notes that Tolkien once compared his group of schoolfriends, the 'T.C.B.S.', to the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood': this is more promising, for it points to an awareness of art in the wide world greater than previously remarked in Tolkien. He is often occurring on the plain, their cool colours a contrast to the gold and red of Glorund. The figure of the beast, awkwardly foreshortened, has none of the sinuous grace of the other dragons Tolkien drew, but is unsurpassed in fierceness. Its unusual face recalls ceremonial masks from Africa, Asia, or Native American cultures.46 Tolkien had been fascinated by dragons since child-hood, when he read Lang's story of Sigurd and Fafnir. He described his feelings long afterwards in On Fairy-Stories, where he referred to Fafnir as 'the prince of all dragons': I never imagined that the dragon was of the same order as the horse. And that was not solely because I saw horses daily, but never even the footprint of a worm. The dragon had the trade-mark Of Faerie written plain upon him. In whatever world he The Anglo-Japanese style developed in the United Kingdom through the Victorian era and early Edwardian era from approximately 1851 to the 1910s, when a new appreciation for Japanese design and culture influenced how designers and craftspeople made British art, especially the decorative arts and architecture of England, covering a vast array of art objects including ceramics, furniture and interior design.[1] Important centres for design included London and Glasgow. The style was part of the wider European movement known as Japonisme. The first use of the term "Anglo-Japanese" occurs in 1851,[2] and developed due to the keen interest in Japan, which due to Japanese state policy until the 1860s, had been closed to the Western markets. The style was popularised by Edward William Godwin in the 1870s in England, with many artisans working in the style drawing upon Japan as a source of inspiration and designed pieces based on Japanese Art, whilst some favoured Japan simply for its commercial viability, particularly true after the 1880s when the British interest in Eastern design and culture is regarded as a characteristic of the Aesthetic Movement. By the 1890s–1910s further education occurred, and with the advent of bilateral trade and diplomatic relations, two-way channels between the UK and Japan occurred and the style morphed into one of cultural exchange and early modernism, diverging into the Modern Style,[3] Liberty style and anticipated the minimalism of 20th-century modern design principles. Notable British designers working in the Anglo-Japanese style include Christopher Dresser, Edward William Godwin, James Lamb, Philip Webb and the decorative arts wall painting of James Abbott McNeill Whistler. Further influence can be found in works from the Arts and Crafts movement; and in British designs in Scotland, seen in the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Day 4 of Drawloween's prompts was "exorcism" and my entry was Onmyoji, the name in ancient Japan for a sort of mystic/cleric/exorcist kind of position. I wanted him to look like he was in kind of a trance, and summoning a spirit.

herosgrave.com/onmyoji.html
Within the kingdom of Nal, there exists a curious station among the nobility, that of the onmyoji. Regarded as the King’s Royal Conjurer, the onmyoji practices a form of necromancy, calling forth spirits of the dead to advise the King of Nal. In addition, the onmyoji also acts as the King’s Royal Banisher, exorcising wayward spirits who have taken undue possession of the living. This strange occurrence seems to happen in Nal more often than any other nation, as local legends claim that on their nightly passage to the afterlife, departing spirits would often be distracted by the beauty of the twin rivers, the Sunwater and the Moonwater, and settle in the minds of the sleeping denizens of Nal. Clad in their crimson robes and distinctive mitred caps, it was the job of the onmyoji to separate the errant spirit from the body of the possessed and guide it back on its path to the afterlife. The jingling of the many gold, silver and bronze coins that decorate their attire was the telltale sign of the coming of an onmyoji, and it was this rattling that was said to confuse the spirits in order for the Royal Conjurer to work his or her Magick. Tencendur, Royal Conjurer of King Tustin II of Nal, conjuring the spirit of the king’s late father, Tustin I. The spirits are often featureless, just a mass of floating ectoplasm that speaks through the onmyoji. Though some skeptics claim that this conjuring is nothing more than an elaborate parlor trick, the onmyoji has held a treasured place among the monarchy of Nal for centuries. An omyoji dressed in red robes, with a tall curved hat, his eyes curled back in his head summoning a green spirit.

Hmmm... I want to use the Omyoji class for the upcoming GW but I think I need to rework my party to make better use of it.

The class is probably more ideal for V2 raids but I want to change things up outside of my farming/leech teams😅
