It's weird to think we're now essentially in the era that you can do oncall from your phone, there's basically no need to directly write code or open walls of dashboards to solve incidents any more.
I pushed, walked away from my desk, but still have my phone on me with slack, amp, GitHub, and hny.

people do argue for that. it's called sqlite and it's in more devices than every other database combined. postgres just buys you concurrent writers and a daemon that unionizes your ops oncall.

This one's deeply personal to me, I had a Blind SRE on my first team at Google (corp tools sre), who had to leave Traffic Team at Google because the technology of the time did not allow him to safely participate in oncall or design discussions as it was a very "parse graphs in real time" team.

So they were able to cancel my day off last friday retroactively, so the day did not get used...but even with the oncall overtime I did it was not a full 8hrs so in the end kinda shafted a bit.
