Girella nigricans, the Opaleye! A very common sea chub in the Eastern Pacific! If you've ever been tidepooling in California, you've probably seen them. I went with an olive coloration as this is the common adult coloration, though some are more gray. But younger fish range from silvery to blue-gray. They can have 1 or 2 pairs of spots, I personally usually just see 1 pair in my neck of the woods. But some populations can have more than 2 even.

As another basic bitch Californian. Garibaldi & Opaleye are among the most common fish you'll see and I love them both.

The basic things are my favorites because that's what got me here. Purple shore crabs, sea hares, sculpin, turban snails, ochre stars, and keyhole limpets.

Garibaldi are my favorite fish. As a Californian (it’s our state fish) and especially as a San Diegan, that might seem so basic. But when you’re snorkeling or diving they’re the easiest fish to see, heck you can see them right from the surface they’re so vibrant.
