The house is apparently getting a non-Active Directory LDAP server at some point.
I suppose we get to see how modern, self-professed opinionated LDAP server implementations fare over OpenLDAP in how easy they are to administer.

the other day claude helped me stand up a docker container with an openldap server and small ldap editor (lam), then export a csv from my phone system into it
something i'll never need to do again, but now i fixed the 'directory' functionality on my phones

the current status is that these bindings (for ruby, for a little direct-attached key-value database called lmdb, the storage engine that ships with openldap) are actually in a lot better shape than they were yesterday morning

Wow! I’ve been fighting with OpenLDAP trying to get it working cleanly across all my systems, and it has been a giant pain. I tried Kanidm last night and had it running in a FreeBSD jail in a single evening. Now I’ve got SSO, and I’m logging into Gitea and Nextcloud with passkeys. This is awesome!

While it's crossplatform it uses it's own LDAP client written in C# so doesn't require OpenLDAP or other native libs that S.DS.P does. It isn't as fully featured as the builtin AD module but I'm slowly adding things to it.

DONE: along with upgrade of Ubuntu, migrated three hosts to OVH for: Staging and Production of Liferay/Keycloak/PostgreSQL/ElasticSearch/OpenLDAP ; and also a bacula backup server. Snappier performance a welcome surprise.
