I actually haven't decided yet, but I'm playing around with OpenMPT, Furnace and FastTracker 2. I only need to replace the instruments, add a bit of oomph to the songs, and export to .xm.

had the same experience working with hugetracker (based on openmpt), it wasn't clearly stated that there was a pattern limit shared across all channels so the first time i ran into it i freaked tf out
had to really optimize the work i've already done which included making new instruments

i usually work in openMPT and i had a conversation last week where i was struggling to articulate to a friend what i like about working in a tracker vs a more traditional modern DAW, but like an hour trying to get FamiStudio working made it SO much clearer to me why trackers are good at what they do

As much as I love music trackers, I think it's better if I learn FL Studio first and THEN move to OpenMPT, I won't make anything if I keep rage quitting at how hard it is for me to make anything in trackers

Oh god yes, pelimusa.s3m from Wings my beloved 💜 I personally started learning how to use trackers properly in 2012 with OpenMPT for classic sample-based tracking and then delved into chiptune trackers for various systems like FamiTracker, DefleMask and Furnace :3

I think a custom VST could accomplish it, give you a decent visual editor like OpenMPT or something?

When he was working on PsyDoom (the main reason these plugins exist), something I sorely wanted was support for tracker music, eg: FastTracker or OpenMPT formats. Maybe it's not strictly accurate to PS1, but you get access to sample-based instruments and ADSR envelopes for free

I made the first four Stevia Sphere EPs in OpenMPT and Audacity using nothing but 100% free plugins, followed by the first four glaciære albums in SunVox. Really shows that you can make vaporwave on a potato if you'd like.
