A lot of the lovelier series about magical worlds (earthsea, witch hat atelier, burn the witch, even witch hat academia) don't tend to focus on the oppulence and the materialism quite enough.
Hunger Games is ironically a rejection of this kind of YA while also leaning into it with the Capitol.

It misses it's own point, and is tonally inconsistent. It starts by admiting the dress succeeded to draw attention. Then it complaines about how the event is a wealth and oppulence. Then tries to contrast against another example which was a costly action by a multimillionare. Pick a lane.

I think not. Scrooge is New Money. It's always exciting for him. Mansa Musa could barely understand poverty as a concept. He wouldn't notice oppulence. Diving into a pool of gold coins would have just been an everyday part of his bathing regimen.
