New Toettchlab paper alert!

Harrison Oatman just published his beautiful work combining software design for "smart" microscopy+optogenetics and some really beautiful work understanding EGFR-driven collective cell migration.

My favorite from an @hhmi.org scientist: “the great thing about optogenetics is it keeps the riff raff out of the field.”
Heard an established successful neuroscientist dismissing junior scientists as "people at the bottom" 🤦‍♀️

You folks with lots of research funds & power: young scientists more than ever need our respect and support even if you don't agree with their ideas and approaches

"optogenetics" is a cute word that doesn't quite convey "we infect mice with viruses that make them grow photoreceptors on their brains, and then mind control them by shining light through their skulls"

We are hiring a postdoc! We study neural activity and movement using holographic optogenetics, imaging, and recordings in awake mice.

My first postdoc, Masashi, is starting his own lab, so now we have an opening.

Can light build centrosome-like activity? 💡🔬

Yes! We introduce LISA (Light-Induced Spindle Assembly), now in @emboreports.org. By clustering Aurora A with optogenetics, we build centrosome-like activity that nucleates microtubules and rescues spindle defects after centrosome loss. shorturl.at/9h3VQ
