On various plants around the compound, orbweavers of the genus Argiope could be found, with their classy orbwebs decorated by "stabilimenta" of various shapes. I believe these ones are Argiope argentata.

The large orbwebs of the Walnut Orbweb Spider Nuctenea umbratica can be found throughout the year, with adult females present even in the depths of winter. This common and widespread species usually hides in crevices by day (hence its flattened body) but hangs out in the hub of its web at night.

She's a Wasp Spider - so called for her pattern/colouration, not for any nasty nip! They usually hang out in orbwebs, quite low down in grassy vegetation. They've been increasing in Britain; numbers in Norfolk have really shot up this year although it's still towards the north of their range.

What would be Spider-Man without its webs? This feature, although having been pushed to some extremes in comics, is among the ones paying a lot of homage to real spiders, both in how Spidey makes his silk to what he can do with it.

A story made of silk threads One thing comics get right in a certain way is how spiders produce silk. A frequent joke is that, if Spider-Man was to be real, silk should exit from its butt, however it’s missing that spiders’ silk comes from special structures called spinnerets. These sometimes articulated appendages arrosed at first from the underside of the opisthosoma (the spider’s belly if you’d like). If most modern spiders have their spinnerets close to their body end, these appendages originated in the middle of spiders’ bellies, and are capable of fully autonomous movements. So even tho spiders don’t spin webs from their feets, making Peter, Miles or Gwen make them from their wrists isn’t that innacurate since it’s still on an appendage! A story made of silk threads Stories in which the silk isn’t produced organically bring up the idea of web shooters at the wrists, in whose are stored a web fluid that solidify as silk threads coming out of the shooters. And this is maybe the most accurate thing I’ve ever seen in Spider-Man because that’s literally how spider’s silk works! Silk is stored as a liquid in internal glands, the spinnerets acting as conducts for the silk. It only takes the form of solid threads once in contact with the air. And as Spider-Man can choose what type of silk is coming out of his wrists, spiders can produce different kinds of silks depending on what component they mix before expelling the silk, so 10/10 for this aspect of Spider-Man!! Swinging One of the most iconic spider-features across the Spider-Verse is pure fiction, no spider throws silk threads to swing across heights. However, it’s a bit of a mix of several IRL inspirations: All spiders make silky dots on their way to anchor a lifeline preventing them from falling. It’s this thread you see when a spider descends from above. Several spiders, like lynx spiders (oxyopids) and especially spitting spiders (scytodids) are able to spit several times their body length. Many spiderlings and small spiders use the electric tension of the air to catch on their silk threads, making them fly without wings. This feature is called ballooning. A multiverse of web constructs Like said before, the ability of Spider-Man to conjure different types of silk depending on its need is inspired by various spiders’ families, and some of his constructs are actually direct nods to real spiders’ behaviors: Parachute => Inspired by the ballooning of small spiders Silk cocoon => Clubionids (Sac spiders) Sticky silk or sticky glue => Araneoids or Scytodids (spitting spiders) Geometric webs/ Orbwebs => Araneids (Orbweavers) Capture silk thread => Cyrtarachne Silk in watery environment => Argyroneta aquatica

Some orb-weaving spiders decorate their webs, but scientists aren't completely sure how they influence structure, prey detection, or possible prey attraction.
