The debate between Nature-Nurture is a dead end, it's a false dichotomy. We can only understand organismic development in the context of an organism's typical development within its environment. Furthermore, cognitive development cannot be understood without physical and motor development.

we’ve seen years of people discussing themselves as constituent chemical elements, or reduced to bio-mechanics and organismic responses, and I don’t think it’s been generally good for gen pop. we can weave chemical work into narratives of healing or integration that don’t reduce us down

It's always cool to see "intelligence" equated with believable language use when organismic intelligence (the only kind that matters) in every case except for *1* does not involve any use of language at all.

I always found this paper kind of nice: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... it shows that if the environment fluctuates then evolution will favor sensors and the mutual info between sensors and env increases fitness. If the env has memory, I suspect organismic memory will provably be selected for also
