love the fact that in the 1690s King William III and Queen Mary II were walking over orthocone fossils at Hampton Court Palace

Love that Stockholm floors are often paved by these orthocone limestones some of which are huge!

And is that a trilobite I see before me?! ⚒️🧪

#MolluscMonday Rare example of an Ordovician orthocone nautiloid with a fractured shell. Photographed in the stone floor of the King’s Gallery at Hampton Court Palace last week.

A beautifully preserved straight-shelled cephalopod (orthocone) embedded in limestone.

I love having fossils in my hands and being able to touch them.

I would guess that the Stockholm Airport on it's floors has the largest collection of polished slabs with Ordovician faunas, traces fossils and especially orthocone cephalopods! Hundreds and hundreds of acres 1/2

#SurvivingEarth ep 6 is a neat one.

That being said, first of all I'm just gonna say: The orthocone mating scene was really fucking touching in all the best ways.

But also they're portrayed with pinhole eyes so i think they were probably seeing it like the image on the right lmao... (1/?)

Thursday is collections day, so here are some lovely Devonian-Carboniferous cephalopods from the Michigan Basin: a pigmented orthocone nautiloid from the Traverse Gp., an encrusted orthocone from the Silica Fm., and a goniatite from the Marshall Fm.

#MolluskMonday ... Here we have densely packed phragmocones of late Ordovician orthocone nautiloids, a highlight of the Cincinnatian limestones. 🧪⚒️

One of my favorite field trip outcrops was a slab of nautiloid shells oriented parallel to wave ripples in the spillway at Caesar Creek.

#MolluscMonday Photographed at Hampton Court Palace last week, orthocone nautiloids in paving slabs of Swedish Ordovician limestone. A microfault crosses the chambered phragmocone of one. The other fossil may represent a siphuncular structure but comments would be welcomed.

And whilst at Somerset House, it’s mandatory to check out the fantastic orthocones in the Öland Limestone paving! Orthocones are squid like creatures which had long, conical shells #urbangeology
