My theory of ostree vulnerability is that by being readonly, it is easier to swap and replace with another filesystem.
A traditional Linux OS will explode if you swap out its root filesystem. With ostree, an attacker can just pivot your rootfs to a malicious one.

secureblue v4.8.2 has been released. There's a critical rpm-ostree regression in version 2026.1 causing upgrade failures. To confirm whether you're on the impacted version, check rpm-ostree --version. If the version shows 2026.1, follow the steps in the release notes:

The tldr is rpm-ostree/bootc have specific grub configs, other distros often don't deal with it properly which can break it.
