i believe that this is an entirely neurological phenomenon. tinnitus has a litany of known causes and figuring out which one is someone's is not always straightforward

OTOH, ive had tinnitus my whole life since i was a kid + it gets worse when my jaw is bad (i also get otoacoustic emissions, at least that's what i think is happening with the transient piercing shriek in my ear) and I get temp hearing loss bc of my jaw too so idk that we can discount muscle issues.
