Can confirm OTW Legal team is aware of this and working on it! They will hopefully be giving us all an update soon.
Just to make it clear - afaik, your email doesn’t show up on ao3, so their demand to email them from that address is likely phishing. Multiple people have reported the whole thing to the OTW, let’s hope their legal team handles it.
Authors, please check ao3[dot]life for your work. All of mine is there. It’s an AI-generated website with 15 MILLION fics, some of which they are turning into audio books to monetize.
I am literally sick to my stomach.

Can't respond so doing so this way - We've (the several of us that have OTW based archives) been in touch with an OTW engineer. But you can always message me.
(I'm certain OTW will reach out to anybody running other installs once their hair is no longer on fire, but even if I'm wrong this is the cause, it's a thing that should be fixed sooner rather than later)

Thank you for all the support you've shared with us! We have no further updates beyond our earlier October 30 post, but keep an eye on official #OTW channels! While #AO3 is down, we wanted to share some important internet safety reminders with all of you. Read more at: ao3-news.org/2z5ya9px

If you run an install of otw-archive, please email me (alanna@kekkai.org) or comment here and I will DM you my theory and the steps you should take.

The OTW will definitely investigate and take appropriate action, so I would recommend NOT visiting or contacting the clone site until the OTW tells us what they've done/will do and what we should do.
As the replies point out, to have your fic removed they tell you to use the email associated with your ao3 account, something they would have no way to verify.
This looks suspiciously like a phishing scam depending on your outrage to overwhelm your common sense.

Much longer in some cases. Rebecca Tushnet has been involved in OTW forever, and she wrote the seminal law review article on fan fiction and copyright in (iirc) 1997.

Let me be clear about something. Nothing I said in the original post was about replacing or not supporting the ao3 or otw. I have donated money and became a member in the past. However, I think we should INVEST IN MORE PLACES than the ao3 or otw. We should be expanding not subtracting.

They can’t check. Your email isn’t visible on ao3. They’re phishing. Wait for the otw to do something about it.

I've emailed the OTW directly. I'm missing a statement from them, tbh.

Keeping in mind that OTW is a volunteer team I don't think it is a good idea to overwhelm them with further emails. This is a new and developing situation. I can only hope that OTW publicly responds soon with more info and that the site host can investigate/take this down.
