People don't consider that conservatism is agnostic at its heart - so it's perfectly natural to believe that "the time is not right for OurGod™ yet - we are here to set the table for His coming - and if that means exterminating the unbelievers, I am acting only as His instrument, may He be praised".
For modern conservatives, even God can be shelved if they can own the libs, end work, and silence and terrorize every single one of the vast hordes of people they have chosen to hate. Hate. It's a lifestyle choice.
