Now it has built-in 'AI assistance' that sends your draft papers to a third-party LLM. It also means that it shills for the product from right within the editor.

getting a local overleaf instance set up was surprisingly easy. bummer that there's no git integration in the community edition, but manual version control isnt that bad for what i'm doing

Overleaf has GitHub integration, so I use that to version control the writing docs, the code and figures have a separate GitHub that gets published to zenodo for the submitted versions. And I keep copies of the submitted pdfs separately labeled. I have no solution for managing the line numbers 😖.

I guess Overleaf's Dropbox and git integration is the answer to this (only in the paid version of Overleaf though)

I don't know if this is Penn or @overleaf.com , but the AI integration being forced onto me on a previously perfect LaTeX editor is making me want to quit both Overleaf and academia! This is not good. The prompts are distracting and ultimately useless. PLEASE UNDO! I hate it.

Hope to have some CS followers to recommend a LaTeX editor with vi integration, ideally one that shows the compiled document on the screen in real time. Was using Latexian but does not seem to work on a Mac any longer. Any suggestions? Needs to be independent of the internet (no Overleaf!). Thanks.

- Try to leave plain text ragged (e.g., one sentence per line). Not a deal breaker but useful.
- Branches & PRs are great for R&Rs and new ideas (HARD disagree w/ comment on experienced users only).
- I like integrated doc+code engines (Quarto etc.) but Overleaf has nice Git integration too.

Was nutzt du für Latex? Ich benutze Overleaf, bei dem leider die Premiumversion mit Zotero-Integration sehr teuer ist. Daher endet es leider in copy-paste der Bibtex Files.

Prism is free, for now. I think people are reluctant to switch from major platforms, notably Overleaf. Overleaf feels like a more native environment and has LLM-integration (not for free, I think). I am confident they will continue working on it. In sum, I believe Prism won't pick up. 2/
