31st of Owltober!
Horst the Eagle-Owl was found soaked in oil and flightless. After weeks of many grumpy baths from Heike Kneseback, he was once more fit for the wild. Want to donate to Hilfe für Lüneburger Wildtiere paypal.com/paypalme/hil... Source: www.tiktok.com/@flottelotte... #owlsintowels 💛🦉
Horst the Eurasian Eagle-Owl stands on the kitchen floor in front of a fridge. He's freshly bathed and blow-dried, and models a navy-blue towel patterned with slate and white stripes, cloaked over his head like he's a royal mage. His glowing orange eyes watch camera from below tall plumicorns, which jut out in a Y-shape equiangular to his beak, like a honeycomb vertex or an inverted Mercedes 3-pointed star. He looks rather dapper. Panel 1: Horst is not so dapper here, drenched in motor oil and contained in a ply box. His pupils are contracted, with one eye squinting a little, and face feathers are scraggly and unkempt. A total mess. Panel 2: Horst is half-wrapped in a towel, being transported to his new lodgings. His feathers are completely matted with brown and black sludge. Panel 3: He's in a bathtub upon a fuchsia towel being sprayed with warm water from a detachable shower head. He does not look amused. Ceramic tiles line the wall behind. Panel 4: Close-up of Horst sopping wet. His eyebrows have the shape of a very angry V. The photographer is lucky to be alive. Panel 1: Another bathtub picture of Horst in sudsy water. His plumicorns are shaped like very tall devil horns, or filaments in a light bulb. His eyebrows are less pronounced, wide and circular instead of angular half-moons. Panel 2: Post shower, Horst is draped in a nautical-themed towel, blue and white with anchor patterns. His toes stretch wide so he can walk across the kitchen floor with the towel flowing behind him like a wedding dress. Panel 3: Horst's horns are flat, like a deflated letter M that curls around the side of his head. Like a wannabe Ultron. He's wrapped in a towel mostly dark-fuchsia with stripes in hues of yellow, pale mint, and light pink. Panel 4: Another day another towel, this time a dark earthy taupe. Horst stands atop the towel, staring down the blow-drier aimed at him from bottom frame. His eyebrows have resumed their steep angles of immense anger and distrust. Panel 1: Horst is waist deep in the bathtub. A hand pours soapy water from a plastic cup over his feathers behind. He doesn't look like he's enjoying it, rather, it's a look of near resignation as if he's getting used to this now. Panel 2: Nevermind. He's angry again. Wrapped in a shadowy grey towel, his glare burns with absolute rage. A relentless force of vengeance, he answers to no higher power: he is the judge, jury, and executioner of souls. Face him, and know that your story ends here. Panel 3: Horst is fully wrapped around his face with a stone-grey towel, looking like a cat stuck in the arm of a long-sleeve top. He has a rat in his beak. A literal rat. Panel 4: Horst is perched in his ply enclosure, where he presumably sleeps at night, and cranes his neck to peer out from the shadows into daylight. Eyes are dilated, and he spots something in the mid-distance - which is (out of frame) a long horizontal branch. He's about to take flight for it, as part of reconditioning his flight muscles so he may soon be released to the wild.

30th of Owltober!
Toil and Trouble. Two Pueo (Short-eared Owls) were brought to the Hawai‘i Wildlife Center in the same day. They're pictured about to be tube-fed during their time in care. To donate to HWC: www.hawaiiwildlifecenter.org/donate.html Source: fb.com/567742952054... #owlsintowels 💛🦉
A pair of Short-eared Owls are side by side, wrapped in white fabric: one a towel, the other a pillowcase. If the owls were to have names, then Toil [left] looks ready to rumble with an insurmountable fury dwelling within her eyes, whereas Trouble [right] looks far more subdued, and is either very complacent with the situation, or more likely, has not enough energy to tussle. Some days of R 'n R 'n R (rehabilitation being the third R) will surely give him the pep he needs. Both Pueo possess facial feathers the colour, shape, and texture of a Three-toed Sloth, but biologists have yet to draw a direct connection between the taxa. A quarter of hands holding the owl shawarmas up for camera are gloved, which incidentally, excluding thumbs, is the same fraction of non-gloved fingers that are banded with jewellery, which makes this sentence both an odd one to parse, and contain an even number of words and letters.

New Zealand - A Ruru a.k.a. Morepork was found on the roadside and taken to New Plymouth Vet Group. The owl was checked for fractures, treated with snacks + TLC, and soon released. NPVG are well-funded so no dono link today 😊 Source: stuff.co.nz/taranaki-dai... #owlsintowels 💛🦉
It's a close-up of a Ruru wearing a towel bundled like a headscarf. The towel has thick stripes of white and mint green like a Celtic FC supporter. The owl's eyes are golden-beeswax yellow and highly suspicious of the camera operator, spying from within the shade of the towel. The whole thing is vaguely like the meme of Homer Simpson receding into the bushes.

A burrito-wrapped Burrowing Owl was admitted to a wildlife clinic to treat eye ulcers from suspected head trauma. The sender (anonymous) said "his favorite meal in care is mice and mealworms and he is very vocal now that he’s feeling better!" #owlsintowels 💛🦉
A Burrowing Owl is burrito-wrapped in a towel that is far too long for him. The towel is mostly white with floral patterning in shades of pink, green, cyan and yellow. Only the owl's head is visible, oval like the Toyota logo, and his straw-yellow eyes are wide and unfocussed like he's seen Some Things. His mouth is open like Beaker the Muppet and we are, thanks to the medium, spared his eldritch vocalisations. The arm of a rehabber extends from bottom left to hold the burrito with a blue glove and features forearm tattoos of oversized postage stamps. Clinical equipment is behind, as well as dark-tinted cabinets with silver frames.
