Today’s find: an Anglo-Saxon bronze buckle from grave 101 at Ozengell (OZ1169), dated c.575–625 CE. Found near the occupant’s stomach, the warrior grave also contained a knife, spearhead & shield boss.

Our offer for #FindsFriday is this lovely 6th century polychrome glass bead. Recovered from grave 137 during excavations at Ozengell, this bead is likely an import dating from at least 580 CE. The grave has been dated between 575 and 675 AD, suggesting it may have already been old when it was buried

Our year in industry placement, Holly who is studying at the University of reading, has just finished this wonderful early medieval Marzinik type II buckle with ring and dot decoration and openwork lozenges for today's #Findsfriday!

This early medieval bone comb from the Kent Archaeological Society, found at Ozengell Anglo-Saxon Cemetery, may be a curated heirloom. Combs of this type date from the 4th - 5th century CE while the grave it was recovered from dates from between 525 - 575 CE. Even in pieces, its story survives.

To celebrate enjoy this lovely copper alloy buckle and plate I was researching at work yesterday. This came from the Ozengell Anglo-Saxon cemetery on the isle of thanet; it's very similar to one looked at by Sonia Chadwick Hawkes!
