✨ Zavacephale ✨

New basal pachycephalosaurid/most complete pachycephalosaurid skeleton dropped

Trying to practice paleoart more and draw new prehistoric creatures when I get the time

Another #FossilFriday, another #paleoart. Fairly speculative pachycephalosaurid rendering based on a new one found on Hell Creek, Platytholus clemensi

Just found out the pachycephalosaurid from my dinosaur project thingy's formation has been described (the species is now named Brontotholus), so I went and dug up this concept drawing I did of them four years ago (sept. 2021)

Happy to have a name I can google now!

For #FossilFriday, it's a *NEW PACHYCEPHALOSAURID*(!), and a project that is very near and dear to my heart. Let's welcome #Brontotholus_harmoni!

Most likely it's more of a Pachycephalosaurus situation and almost entirely bone.

Happy #FossilFriday! Meet Brontotholus harmoni (MOR 480), a new pachycephalosaurid from the Cretaceous Two Medicine Formation of Montana. Named after former MOR Chief Preparator Bob Harmon. Bronotoholus was named this week in a @ZoolJLinnSoc paper by MSU alumnus @doublebeam and colleagues.

No time for a full nostalgic palaeoart thread, but I still want to share one of my all-time favourite works of palaeoart: Wayne Barlowe's Homalocephale!

Also love that Ned’s reiterated favorite dinosaur is pachycephalosaurus so when this new one shows up looking like a pachycephalosaurid blended with a triceratops, and he loses his mind with delight, I’m so happy

Quick speculative paleoart sketch of the cat sized pachycephalosaurid dinosaur Microcephale / Mycocephale on gray paper. Dinocember 14.

A rooted dinosaur tooth of an indeterminate pachycephalosaurid from the Hell Creek Formation in Carter County, Montana, USA. Genera include, Pachycephalosaurus, Platytholus, Sphaerotholus, and the controversial Stygimoloch and Dracorex. #FossilFriday

A bust of an indeterminate pachycephalosaur. Indeterminate mainly because I mixed up my reference images. #paleoart

is this the year of pachycephalosauria? a warm welcome to brontotholus harmoni, a new pachycephalosaur from the two medicine formation described by woodruff et al. based on cranial material

The Gautin, a Caprin like pachycephalosaurid that lives in mountainous environment, althought their fillaments are sparse in the wild, a domesticated morph with sheep like integument

Wake up nerds. A new dinosaur just dropped!

Brontotholus harmoni, which means “Thunder Dome.”

It was a pachycephalosaurid, and lived in the Late Cretaceous of what is now Montana.

And like most other pachycephalosaurids, it’s mostly known from its skull.

Fossil of the day is Homalocephale. It was a late Cretaceous pachycephalosaurid from Asia. The one known species is H. calathocercos. The generic name means Even Headed. It is sometimes considered a juvenile of Prenocephale, but is often argued not to be as well.

Pachycephalosaurus.

Everyone's favorite dome-headed dinosaur of Hell Creek.

Thought of redrawing this dome-headed dinosaur in time since I kept this behind the scenes.

💚/🔄s are welcomed!

Day 29 of #dinovember 🐡 - Homalocephale
Pair of Homalocephale calathocercos enjoy a drink in the floodplains of Late Cretaceous. This small dinosaur had a flat wedge-shaped skull instead of the more typical dome found in pachycephalosaurids.

Happy #FossilFriday from #Stegoceras! A pachycephalosaurid from North America, these were small (only a few meters long) herbivores/omnivores that lived ~76my ago. Their skulls preserve more frequently than their postcrania due to their robustness, so finding more than an isolated dome is a treat!
