A lot of “good college defense” is simply recognizing there are usually multiple opposing players who are basically non threats. The whole “packline” concept is based on this.

1. Definitely a bit surprised Mack was turned down. I would’ve been fine with him but not crestfallen or anything.
2. I probably would’ve chosen someone else over Pitino, but I definitely don’t hate it
3. Most excited for a fresh start and new principles, namely no more packline!

Which seemed so crazy, because he came from UVa/Bennett. But the packline was such a system defense, so while you can count on the guys that come out of it to be rock solid fundementally, they don't always have the athleticism you need for elite NBA perimiter D.**

Alla barnen kom med hem

We had many recent years (mostly pre-COVID years) of grind it out, low scoring, bad shot selection games in CBB. Copycat game, for a while it seemed like Packline, then "No middle" defenses were giving offenses hell
Nice to see Florida-Kentucky play uptempo, high scoring, efficient game.

When I was a young high school coach in BC I got to watch three days of practice in Dick's first season at Wazzu. Tony came up to me and two other high school coaches after a practice and asked if we wanted him to show us how the packline worked then put on an impromptu two-hour coaching clinic.

Worth noting they’re gonna lead by 11 over Lipscomb and have played solid D but there’s something interesting about how deep Lipscomb has sunk defensively, like a packline but with guys who can’t defend well. Got an eye on next Wednesday vs. Troy, who plays great D but is very different than this

I'm sorry but whoever says Packline D & wearing down your opponent by taking :29 to then get great shots on offense (aka Tony Bennett ball) is hard to watch compared to whatever that rugby match I just watched was...A for effort, D for execution. #MarchMadness #FinalFour 24% on 3s, 36.9% on 2s 😵
