I had no idea that UK carriers had paddlewheels, as shown in the second photo.

Just read a breathless press release claiming a ship is the first "hybrid" to burn fossil fuels and use windpower, and my dudes you are not even fucking close.

It's also possible that they were struggling to get their head around Waverley itself. As the last of its breed it's pretty extraordinary.

For one thing it can be going at 16 knots *and then stop in its own length*. That's extraordinary.

Paddlewheel Graveyard. Tucked secretly among the spruce trees and the west bank of the Yukon River. Most abandoned when ground travel became more popular. #yukon #DawsonCity #klondike #goldrush #paddlewheels #riverboats #canadaheritage #urbandecay

I can’t believe you would say that! I do entirely neurotypical things, like identifying steamboats from their paddlewheels!

Some minerals I didn't know much about, part 2:
Carpathite - an organic mineral, natural form of coronene (coron- prefix meaning 'Crown'), a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH).
Paddlewheelite - uranium mineral named for its crystal structure, which features nano-paddlewheels!
Behold, the #MinCup35 bracket!

Use it to follow along, plan campaigns to support your favs, or make predictions on how voting will shake out. We start at the top left on September 1st, then alternate left and right as we work our way down.

Paddlewheels for Peace.
We are the laughingstock of the world because of our moronic and psychotic president. Deservedly so.

Some say that if you put your ear to the stone, you can still hear the paddlewheels turning in the distance....

In this pre-print, we've been using 3D electron diffraction again, this time to study metal-organic polyhedra containing Zn(II) paddlewheels in work led by Matt, Bea, and Calum.

3D electron diffraction shows structural flexibility in rare Zn(II) paddlewheel-based metal-organic polyhedra | ChemRxiv
Zinc paddlewheels are widely found in metal-organic frameworks, but found more sparingly in porous molecules. Here we report some of the first examples of metal-organic polyhedra containing zinc paddl...

so it's like a trackhoe, but it's on a little barge and has paddlewheels?

would that make it a paddlehoe?

There were leaf boats and handmade paddlewheels in the vernal brook in my great uncle Carle's meadow on Ashley Lake

You can also see the paddlewheels through a porthole. This is slowed down to 0.25 speed.

The problem here is that even though they're offset, the steam usually arrives in the other two cylinders via the HP cylinder, and you can immediately see the issue if it's not taking any...

The paddlewheels wanting to shove everything in the other direction likely didn't help either.

Before it was "Pool 1" this was a fairly calm and shallow part of the River known as "Cheever's Landing," able to land big steamboats. "Saint Paul" is shown here just below the U of M campus in 1904. Travel was also very weather dependent, in a high dry summer you could walk across the river here.

Hey Steve, glad you are here with us tonight, too. Some of my early years were spent in the heartland, taking paddlewheels from St. Louis to St. Paul, Omaha to Chicago. I loved it!

While they're at it, let's replace the turbines with paddlewheels.
This is absolutely ridiculous. For all its potential pitfalls, the Ford aircraft carriers are built entirely around the EMALS system, and "replacing" it with steam catapults - which require large amounts of space and personnel - is simply not a realistic option. www.wsj.com/us-news/trum...

Skimmer boat? DC Water runs a small fleet, backed up by US Army Corps of Engineers debris boats for the bigger flotsam. But there are not cute paddlewheels, if that's what you're seeing. www.google.com/maps/place/W...
