The origin of Cretaceous-Palaeogene impactor revealed by nickel isotopes
A relatively volatile-poor asteroid from the outer Solar System was responsible for the extinction of non-avian dinosaurs.

#Paleoart of giant fossil penguins, Kumimanu, for #FossilFriday. Penguin diversity exploded in the Palaeogene and human-sized, spear-beaked Kumimanu were just one of many lineages. Their feathers weren't precisely like those of modern penguins yet, and some had reddish colouration. #dinosaurs

Loving the Carrollian presentation of this exhibition on the early Palaeogene. What a brilliant idea.
The early Paleogene is famously a time of giant birds and tiny horses. Taking some inspiration from Alice in Wonderland, we wanted to evoke the feeling that sizes are off-kilter and nothing is as it seems. Jay Ryan’s unique graphic art style defines the look of the exhibition.

The endocranial anatomy of ‘thoracosaur’ crocodyliforms: implications for their ecology and phylogenetic affinities
‘Thoracosaurs’ are Late Cretaceous to early Palaeogene longirostrine eusuchian crocodyliforms from coastal marine deposits in Europe and North America. Their phylogenetic placement is debated; wherea...

On this day 3 years ago, we published the discovery of the season of the meteorite impact that killed the dinosaurs - and I frequently still have to pinch myself.

This "osteohistology" evidence from paddlefish that would have been buried by the massive debris from the Yucatan suggests these fish bore witness to the catastrophe.

There's a significance to the timing of Chicxulub: spring is a delicate time when young animals emerge, hungry animals first feed.

"... our study suggests that palaeogeographic and palaeoceanographic changes were key drivers of diatomite deposition during the Palaeogene..."
