72 years from the first massacre until the death of Truganini, last tribal Palawa, and considered the end of the race.
It wasn’t, descendants, all mixed race from women being stolen for sealing operations and rape continued to live and fight for our rights.
A fight we continue to this day.

Muwinina people, original inhabitants of what is now Hobart.
Hobart, for the settlement.
And May for the month he was captured.
His real name was never recorded and is lost to history.
This began a systematic murdering of Aboriginal people culminating in total genocide of the tribal Palawa.

Like the story of the Maori chieftains brought to Tasmania to ‘roundup’ Palawa to be placed in an internment camp. The Maori men went bush, met up with my mob and began teaching guerilla warfare. They married into Palawa families and lost their lives fighting.
Their remains were repatriated in 1988

I also managed to catch up with good friend and Tasmanian Greens Senator Nick McKim and asked him about his involvement with NAIDOC and the Palawa community. 🖤💛❤️

Love to see that the Tasmanian Aboriginal palawa kani place names map has had a whole makeover. Great user info, a better layout, it's beautiful.

(Of course, I discovered the update because an article in press has the old URL in a footnote & it's too late to change it...)

#Dailyglimmer Attended a smoking ceremony led by Palawa leader Trish Hodge the other day. She kindly shared her knowledge of country & I got a quick look at her new wonderful book, Palawa tunapri - Knowledge of Our Ancestors, on uses of hundred of native plants in Lutruwita/ Tasmania. 🌱
