Today, we organized a vulgarisation workshop about paleopalynology at the Musée Espace Gaïa in Montereau-Fault-Yonne for the "Fête de la Science"! Rafael Cabral, Adele Giobbini and myself (with the help of @mathildelp.bsky.social) presented 3D printed pollen grains to the public.

Geologist here, if u are trying to age the sand deposit, you will have to use proxy methods (paleopalynology, radiocarbon, etc) as you would just get the age of the rock the sand was eroded from if you didn't. And there's no way of knowing where that sand sample really came from when it was a rock

They aren’t adapted at all. The heaths remind of what we call “campo úmido” but drier. Sometimes fire would spread underneath the vegetation. Some paleopalynology studies have shown that fires have naturally occurred for millennia.

I read Hansons.. 😬

Are there any paleopalynology studies in the area that you know of? I’m listening to a very interesting bool called Nature’s Ghosts: The world we lost and how to bring it back, which mentions paleo ecology a lot and how it could help guide restoration

#Paleoxylology is the study of #fossil wood. #Paleopalynology deals with the study of ancient pollen and spores.
