hmmmm pamac crashing on manjaro. not a big deal since i kinda prefer not using graphical package managers outside of flatpaks but it is aggravating cause if it crashes mid-install i then have to reinstall manjaro. fortunately this exists not as a daily driver but more a testbed for handbrake

I bought a Radeon GPU to make my own life easier then 'yay'ed myself pamac and it's been pretty plug and play since then. Proton makes gaming very straight forward.

synaptic is a gui for apt and pamac is a gui for pacman (made for arch but I feel like it should work on other distros?)

Never used Octopi when I was on Arch based distros. A few people mentioned it but someone always advised against it because reasons and recommended pamac instead. But pamac is from Manjaro and based on my experiences with Manjaro and since they don't follow the Arch update schedule I avoided it.

pamac is also great, it just works. Even if something is unavailable on the official Manjaro repos, I know I can always fall back on the AUR or flatpaks.

i mean pamac is the package manager and while its definitely possible that it wont Always fuck up that bad in this instance it wouldve required significant effort to recover the os if it was even possible. and this was just to test smth that ended up not even working so it wasnt worth it

Klar, es kommt immer auf den Anwendungsfall an. Allerdings gibt es für die PackageManager auch grafische Oberflächen, bei APT z.B. synaptic und bei pacman pamac. Zu synaptic kann ich nichts sagen, da ich es noch nie benutzt habe, aber pamac reicht in den aller meisten fällen für Endanwender aus.

Arch....why did it have to be Arch? I found pacman/pamac to be possibly the most unreliable package manager ever across several machines and at least three releases! I'll take something Debian based, apt/synaptic any day and twice on Tuesdays! Go SparkyLinux instead for that legacy box.

Manjaro! Where using the single best feature of Arch, the AUR, which you have access to out of the box through Pamac or whatever, can break your install because your distro repos are arbitrarily two weeks behind mainline Arch.

At the moment, I only use KDE's Discover store for Flatpak downloads, but there is a version of Pamac on the AUR that is set up to handle everything, including Flatpak, if you prefer to do everything from a single GUI.
There's also other alternatives to Pamac if you prefer.
It's just the one I use

(and then there also was that "Pamac meaning Manjaro's main package manager accidentally dDoSed the AUR" incident which apparently happened at least twice) though if users don't want to use and if Manjaro is no longer "half advertising" the AUR Manjaro might be an option.

Archinstall takes care of the DE nowadays too :D
And then you can install something like Octopi or Pamac (don't tell the snobs) and install a bunch of apps in one go, specially if you activate the Chaotic-AUR
It's genuinely much easier this days

não tem a ver com a distro do Arch, isso é no AUR, o sistema q é alimentado pelo software dos users. eu uso o Cachy OS q é uma distro baseada no arch, só uso o AUR (yay, pamac..) em último caso, qd não há software nos repositórios oficiais, e é o q toda a gente devia fazer...
