Nothing brightens my day like getting an email from a grad student about my research, asking legit thoughtful questions about archives AND expressing appreciation for my paratexts article! (This is why I always reach out/email scholars whose work I admire! Good to know someone is reading at all.)

Cheating isn't a very densely theoretical book but something I've noted is that game studies tends to talk about paratexts plural and Consalvo talks about the paratext singular. they are less moons orbiting the text for her and more the universe in which the text is situated.

Liane Moriarty’s author’s note before Big Little Truths (sequel to Big Little Lies) talks about the TV’s shows affect on her thinking about the sequel and would be a *great* example for a class discussion of adaption and paratexts (noting for myself for next semester).

American comic book fan communities are stereotypically male. “Stereotypically” because girls & women have always loved comics but are less represented, both culturally & in terms of marketing. “Bitch Planet” addresses this neglect, cultivating a woman-led, explicitly feminist fan community. 1/13

This is correct. When I worked at NoA, the justification was always something like "customers' purchase entitles them to the game, not the entirety of the IP that it's attached to", so I guess it's a way of distinguishing Luigi's Mansion 3 from all LM3 tie-in paratexts and merchandise.

The English Bible I’m working on right now was the first in a new series with explicitly Calvinist paratexts, always urging the reader towards an anti-sacramental view. It was made to accompany the new 1552 book of common prayer and reflected changing liturgical practices.

The staging of these tensions is both thoughtful & thrilling, delivering on the exploitation premise while deconstructing the concept of exploitation. The series further encourages deconstruction by cultivating fan communities and critical interactions within paratexts & letter pages. 7/8

NEW VIDEO!

For almost two decades, Tim Heidecker & Gregg Turkington have woven meta-narratives, paratexts, & reams of ludicrous lore into "On Cinema": an eternally collapsing depiction of personality disorders & vapidity.

It may be the most ambitious comedy ever made.

Cracked up laughing at this interview cuz Daisy rightfully spends the bulk of it railing against the moral cowardice of Indian and US publishers and literary orgs on the genocide in Gaza and rising Fascism. But the headline is, “Paratexts suck, don’t use ’em!”

. . . which is also controversial!

"My understanding of what it means to translate really began with a seminar I took with Professor Ramanujan in 1992. What I loved was how pragmatic he was about translation," Daisy Rockwell told Chintan Girish Modi.
