Climate professional: look, that is insignificant compared to the large and growing gap between our total emissions and the level of emissions consistent with achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement

Great review of a great movie. "Five years after a record number of people watched Don’t Look Up, the Trump administration is back in power and has pulled the US out of the Paris Agreement again."
i wrote about why i think everyone (esp people working on climate) should see digger. unfortunately i had to spoil digger in order to write about digger. so do me a favor and see digger and then come back and read my review
Everyone Hates ‘Digger.’ It’s the Perfect Climate Movie
The deeply uncomfortable film forces audiences to confront what types of stories we tell ourselves about who has economic and political power.

NZ exposed to refined fuels. Yup! Greens accurate.

ACT want to leave the Paris agreement. Pleading we are ‘small’ and ‘if’ statements. Lost his thread. No clear point. Word salad.
he says nothing.

I learned about him through Christiana Figueres who led the breakthroughs that led to the Paris climate agreement. I think she studied at a Plum Village location.

For context:

My grocery store food is 1 tCO2e per year
I've avoided 0.3 tCO2 from driving by e-biking 2000 km

The Paris Agreement target carbon budget in 2030 is 2.5 tCO2e

The current Finnish average is almost 8 tCO2e per year (consumption calculation)

India met in 2026--nine years early--its Paris climate commitment to have 40% of its generation to be non-fossil fuel!

India is now pairing solar with batteries to meet the same reliability or dispatchability standards of coal plants!

Much-needed refresher?

"The 2015 Paris climate agreement means all countries agreed to phase out fossil fuel use. That’s essential in order to keep climate change under 2 degrees C."

This paper, written in 2018, reminds me that so much of what we're witnessing right now is the triumph of post-Paris Agreement efforts to *sabotage* equity & justice-centered climate ambition—efforts that took parasitic advantage of Trump & the rise of global fascism.
We're witnessing the downstream impact of post-2015 efforts by incumbent political, tech, & economic elites to sabotage the Paris Climate Agreement, esp. climate action frameworks rooted in fairness, equity, & justice—e.g., Green New Deal.

A Franco-German deal to strengthen protections in the Industrial Accelerator Act in exchange for looser combustion engine rules should be finalized “in the next few hours or in the next few days,” EU industry chief Stéphane Séjourné has said.
Franco–German deal on cars and ‘Made in Europe’ is ‘hours or days’ away, says EU industry boss
Speaking at POLITICO’s Competitiveness Summit in Paris, Stéphane Séjourné said he hoped the agreement would help “break the deadlock, particularly in the European Parliament” on the IAA.

As for who should be allowed to join NATO, the US and USSR put that in writing when they drafted and signed the Paris Charter of 1990.

The Paris Charter elevated the Helsinki Final Act as the central security agreement for Europe, the USSR, and US.

Art. 1, HFA. Note the last sentence.

There were still achievements Affordable Care Act, 20 million more Americans insured, Dodd–Frank, economic recovery and the Paris Climate Agreement. Obama himself admits he still didn’t achieve enough. Calling that “style over substance” ignores the actual substance.
