I take my whiskey neeeeat....

(Still a whiff of Parosmia/Dysgeusia with chocolate but dark mint seems to be winning after 4 years).

I only present my experience as anecdote, but my vaccinations also noticeably improved my long-term recovery from COVID-induced parosmia
PLEASE get your vaccines/boosters if you can. Not only do they lower your risk of getting covid in the first place (and cover variants), they lower your risk of long covid!
This is my understanding too, long COVID has been steadily falling in prevalence and severity since the vaccine and booster rollouts. That’s not a lot of help for people still struggling with it though!

Didn't know I had long COVID? It was just parosmia, it wasn't a terrible disability

I was surprised at how much my COVID-induced parosmia diminished after the 2-year mark, given that parosmia that lasts that long is usually permanent.
Good news about a bad thing: Two big studies just appeared in Nature and JAMA suggesting that in most cases the risks from even serious Long COVID fades after 1.5-2 yrs. Until this, there'd been a lot of (understandable!) fears that it could last for a lifetime. But for most people, it seems not.

“I've been dealing with parosmia for over 5 yrs. Imagine the worst smell you have ever smelt in your life? That’s how a lot of things smell (and taste) to me every day.” Read interview of Kristina, a mask chain designer who struggles with #LongCOVID.

Many more if you search, but:

This found boosting reduced parosmia/anosmia only by ~36% www.mdpi.com/2079-9721/13...

hey, gonna talk about something seriously bumming me out. i developed a smell disorder called parosmia after getting covid back in April. It still hasn't recovered yet. It makes nearly everything overwhelmingly smell like a sweet bleach chemical mix and makes some foods taste atrocious.

Parosmia. I get it too but for other reasons. From what I've read it's not rare in the long COVID universe.

Parosmia is often described as a smell hallucination, but I don’t think that fully explains what happened to me. Everything smelled exactly the same: like rotten meat. Ginger, blueberries, garlic, bread, flowers, people, garbage—every smell sensation was the same. Putrid, toxic, dangerous, revolting

My two SFUSD kids got Covid in Dec 2020 (so, pre-vaccine). One of them lost his smell, then developed parosmia (where your smell comes back but things smell bad/off), which led to other problems. It was *awful.* I was so thankful that schools were still closed and at least he hadn’t spread it…

it might just be my parosmia talking but i bet he reeks of formaldehyde

My new love is dehydrated soy curls because you just rehydrate them and you’ve got a banger meat substitute (it also doesn’t fuck with the parosmia I’ve been experiencing/it doesn’t have The Bad Smell like meat does so it’s safe)

A year later, the product was removed from the shelves—a number of people had this experience. I had no sense of smell for maybe 4-5 months. When it returned, I moved from anosmia to parosmia.

Yay, me.

"For people with Long COVID, the sensation of smelling or tasting mold is a form of parosmia, a smell disorder that distorts odors. This distorted sensation results from damage to the olfactory system caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus."
