about to get canceled by all the other ornithologists, but warblers

yeah, that's right, parulids are cute and all, but y'all on the east coast need to calm down
Next time is OVERRATED... this should provoke some debate! What's your most overrated species?

Happy Wednesday all. Today's picture is a male yellow-rumped warbler (Setophaga coronata). Not great picture-he is kind of at one with the tree. But I don't see these guys a lot so I get a picture when I can. San Benito County, California.

But yeah. Nothing like the extent to which Parulids go over the ocean. Compare vagrant records of Passerelliids vs Parulids in Europe for example. Tons more Parulids and higher diversity too. And they mostly get there under their own steam, rather than by ship like most Sparrow records

I really miss parulids

A long time ago I started writing out stories for how my characters got together, but I lost steam about 3/4s of the way through the Parulids’ story. I kinda want to try again from scratch, especially now that I’m a slightly better writer and have a better grasp on my characters personalities lol

٩(◕‿◕。)۶ _Very_ jealous. This is one of the few parulids (north of Mexico, anyway) that I have not seen :( Almost impossible to imagine I'll ever visit its range again (눈_눈)

Agreed :) And parulids (save Pine) are not tough enough for winter :P

Which days did I fail to visit my local trails? Why, that's easy to calculate!

Interesting lore about the Parulids. Including Mark's divorce. Was it tough for Mark for not also being the father but also being the mother to raise his sons?

Take your time, quality content takes its hïatus periods and rethinking everything from scratch haha I know it very well. I'm sure it all will be so cool and after the Parulids I'll be happily invested in your other bois

28 species of North American ‘warblers’, but only 25 are parulids 😉

Ah, yeah, I didn’t count the Phyllo warblers. So I need Arctic, too.
Also need Colima & Golden-Cheeked. And I think Virginia’s to finish off the Parulids.
And then Olive Warbler, for the “has warbler in name” group.
Worm-eating nest about an hour & a half away from me, so I visit them each spring

Parulids and Parids: At today's Mennill/Doucet Lab Meeting we discussed Alana's Rufous-capped Warbler research, and Nina's Great Tit research. We are pleased to welcome Nina to our labs as a visiting scientist from the Netherlands!
