Some sunsets are too good to be true… so I had to paint this one. 🌅✨

One of the ways I practiced composition and limited color palettes after undergrad was these little pastel landscapes, which I would honestly still love to have prints of to hang up.

A stone castle wall. A towering desert temple. An abandoned theater. A landscape with a flowering tree in the foreground, a body of water beyond that, and mountains in the distance.

I started trying to put in figures or something to indicate scale pretty early on, but it took a while for me to get comfortable with it.

A view down a straight road in the autumn, with an arched canopy of orange and pink leaves covering it. Houses are visible between the trees at regular intervals. A graveyard with a mausoleum or monument up on a hill, with stairs leading up to it. A body of water with a dock and building on the edge. Further away are other structures attached via path to the waterside. A large cloud looms over the scene from behind the building. A pink picture of someone in a dress standing beside a gnarled tree, looking out over an indistinct landscape. Plains? Water? I don't remember, and it's not clearly rendered.

Yesterday I’ve thought why not try to finish it- I just did whatever I’ve fancied, with no photo to look at, so it was intuitively painting. I really like the process…. Always learning

honestly should have tagged this one with #PastelLandscapes also, although it's one of the ones I finished and polished a little more than most of them.
