Here’s a recent pastel painting that I’m proud of! I thought it would be fun to share my process too :) I used a royalty free photo as reference from Pexels (I highly recommend!)

Soft pastels on Pastelmat. 7 x 9.5 in.

Making some marks on Mi-Tientes paper. I’m doing a piece on some of the new faux-Pastelmat version but I wanted to see how this palette works on this shade of paper.

Answer: no.

I think I’m going to do this on brighter - and bigger - paper. I need more room for details 👀
A light blue piece of 9x12 paper with a lot of peachy, pinky, purpley marks blended together. An eye and hairline peek out of the middle. Ten points if you can figure out who it is

Portrait of Russell Mael from Sparks

Soft pastel on pastelmat

Took a while to get it to a presentable state. Had to let it rest for a night for a new perspective.

Soft #pastel #drawing on Clairefontaine pastelmat, 30 x 40 cm.

A few tweaks from yesterday. Quite pleased, as it's not totally awful for a 1st-ever colour portrait.

Soft #pastel #drawing on Clairefontaine pastelmat, 30 x 40 cm.

Needs polishing tomorrow, but not too awful for a 1st ever colour portrait; usually b&w as charcoal or silverpoint.
