#pdp11
Sigh I used to know ttl, cmos, linear, z8 and hc11 microprocessor, pdp8 and pdp11 , lsi 11, I could program in binary, octal, basic, fortran and Pascal. What happened?

I have 1.25MB of RAM in my PDP11/23; I use it mostly for learning MACRO assembly language. The programs I am writing take up maybe a kilobyte. Does that make me a terrible wolf?

We held back on a major project as NT4 was simply not reliable enough for continuous control environment.

Y2K turned out to be just the ticket once we had tested everything.

We had a pdp11 image running in a container file and controlling complex batch plant via bus adapters.

Hello! It’s 1970! I just saw this awesome game called Spacewar on a PDP-10 at university! How do I make you pay me coins for it? Dime and quarter a #pdp11 ??

i worked on a Intelligence Community program; my aerospace company build them a high speed ATM switch, state of the art. a big deal, hard to pull off.

i did a lot of DEC stuff, from PDP11/34 up through all the VAXs and into Alphas. I loved VAX/VMS as a programmer.

...but have my Action! And Assembly carts all ready to go.

And don't forget my pdp11 😂

Honestly just touching the silicon this way is so much more rewarding than the layers of abstraction modern computers make you deal with.

Where's the fun in that?

why does the pdp11 look like a dope ass synthesizer

Not any more but I've worked on plenty in my time in addition to the Qbus above.

Our most notable upgrade was PC > PDP11 system image running in a container file - then ISA connected to a Co- Processor and Unibus adapter to control plant - circa 1979 vintage.

And it bloody worked...

I eventually had product responsibility for all our pdp11 based systems in the field.

It's a long and detailed history.

He had pdp8e and pdp8a machines in the field on some of our smaller applications.

Mainly small water/sewage treatment works but some chemical manufacture too.

The larger telemetry systems were always pdp11.

That was the one where the memory was literal ferrite rings (cores) on a wire matrix? Seen one on a PDP11/70, although I suspect it wasn't being used any more at the time.

Our very last incarnations were the pdp11 image running in a PC container file with a real unibus/qbus converters for drive existing field I/O

One system was particularly awesome and the plant interface equipment dated back to late 70s

And we got the bloody thing working!

Dear reader, I was that person.

(I've coded a papertape reader and keyed it into a PDP11 by hand as binary. The tape then loaded the basic OS.)

Fuck I'm old.
