And this includes anyone who thinks you can use LLMs or otherwise automate the process of peer review.

I will not read, peer review, or write tenure & promotion letters based on any work of scholarship that contains any AI-assisted writing. None! Don’t fuck with me on this question.
So, you disclose yr AI use to a publisher. They decide it’s w/in the bounds of acceptability. Your manuscript is invited, peer reviewed, board approved, published—w/ your use now disclosed in your acknowledgments. All above board, it seems. But what do yr readers think? Colleagues? T&P committee?

An LLM cannot do peer review because it is NOT A PEER.

This can be called screening or assessment or something else... but an ABSOLUTELY should not be called peer review.

And yes, Im really angry after a peer reviewer likely fed my unpublished manuscript into an LLM to generate a review and didn't disclose it to the press. Dishonest and unethical behavior is what gAI encourages and breeds.

This is a note for journal editors / publishing houses: do not bother asking me to peer review something written with any kind of AI use whatsoever. Why should I give you my time to peer review it when the author couldn’t even be bothered to give up their time to write it?!

Ah so another accountant, agents like to help peer so they surely have peer review.

not sure what they mean by disclosure during the peer review process, either, because the article seems to be a book review

Reviewing a grant proposal online and this is the first question I'm asked. Folks, I think we solved peer review

it’s so sad how little most academics know about the history of peer review

first invented by the french polymath pierre revue, ok ill see myself out

I'm not even kidding, she was like "graduate-level law review articles aren't peer reviewed" and cited Wikipedia at me to prove the error of my ways

Ask me how I feel about AI use in peer review. I have spicier feelings.

One of the greatest benefits of AI may simply be offering a nonjudgmental and indefatigable listener for all your needs

Peer review, wrapped (again).

It is not (yet) taking me any longer to get a manuscript decision, on average. It is, on average, becoming harder for me to get an R+R probably due to a new record rejection N for one paper.

Foregoing peer review and having political appointees decide which researchers get funding. Do I even need to comment on this?
November 1, 2026 at 11:08 AM
Use of AI in the peer review process does indeed endanger the authors' intellectual property rights PLUS the confidentiality of the review process. It is a breach of peer review ethics.
Isn't it also simply a matter of data policy and intellectual property? Unpublished research, containing original ideas, frameworks, and results, should not be fed into any AI tool where it is not 100% certain that the supplied information will not be stored or forwarded in any way.

Halloween post: Is AI review better than human review? lh3.github.io/2026/10/31/i...

Generally “no” when you ask the authors or the peer reviewers. The answer would likely be more negative if the authors were required to provide point-by-point rebuttals.

What the hell? It’s a book manuscript. That I wrote. It’s been through an entire editing and peer review process!

I'm not sure how you can look at the various biases and financial motivations of the AI industry and conclude that AI peer review "will not be influenced by conflicts of interest as it has no competitors, collaborators or career incentives that might skew its assessment."

It’s very easy for me to say: don’t let GenAI write for you. Don’t let it peer review for you. There’s a world of variability beyond: “AI generated articles w/ fake citations are getting published!” What does the subtler erosion of author-reader trust look like? And how will it vary by discipline?
