Removing pepperball residue from clothing and other items. This is based on my (unfortunately extensive) personal experience and experimentiation.

Removing pepperball residue from clothing and other items. This is based on my (unfortunately extensive) personal experience and experimentiation.

as a general rule if you are in any kind of situation that might turn into a fight you don't want to pull out any object that is shaped like a gun. this includes those stupid pepperball guns and tasers.

as a general rule if you are in any kind of situation that might turn into a fight you don't want to pull out any object that is shaped like a gun. this includes those stupid pepperball guns and tasers.
Not wearing full tactical gear and gas masks, not sporting pepperball rifles, and brandishing grenade launchers for tear gas, turns out to be super helpful to keeping heads cool.
Situ at Delaney Hall: No curfew, barricades shifted to a much smaller area allowing greater movement of protestors. About a dozen Newark PD standing in front of the driveway as protestors chant, vent their upset. PD is in uniform or polos, focused on not reacting or instigating. Intently calm.

Another unarmed protester was possibly blinded by DHS/ICE after being shot in the eye with a pepperball outside the Metropolitan Concentration Center in Downtown Los Angeles on January 31, 2026.

Today at the Whipple Federal Building in Minnesota while federal agents rushed the protest crowd, one agent is filmed pushing a protester and slipping on ICE. Another agent has his pepperball gun broken and he slips on the cartridge holder while dropping pepperballs all over.

If you're planning on getting shot with pepperballs regularly, carry some "decon" wipes with you. Pepperball and Byrna make them, there's some decent generic brands too.
Decon wipes are for field-expedient relief. If you have a chance to wash with dish soap and water after wiping, do that.

If you don't need to use your items right away after your half-ass pepperball decontamination process, let them sit out in the sunlight for a few days.

Anything that had pepperball residue on it should not ride in the cabin of your car until you're sure it's all gone.
Nothing worse than driving on the freeway and inhaling pepperball. Put it in a sealed plastic bag in the trunk. Carry extra bags in your trunk so you can doff after protests. 8/

Pepperball projectiles. Percussion grenades. Tear gas, CS gas. Pepper spray. Foam baton rounds. LBD-40s. Marker rounds. I’m guilty of the “less lethals” language as a kneejerk catch-all for these items in the moment, but Luke is right. Time to get specific and stay specific.
No one should be using the term "less lethal" when referring to the missiles and projectiles shot at protesters unless you are content doing PR for cops.

5th Cir., 2-1, holds that George Floyd protesters that were "subdued" by PepperBall rounds did not sufficiently plead that City of Dallas should have known about the officer's propensity for violence bc his 19 prior incidents were not sufficiently similar.

NYC, literally the world's largest urban Jewish population, twice as many as in Jerusalem, has been *overwhelmingly loud* about opposing genocide, whether by risking getting shot in the eye by a pepperball or bodyslammed skull-first into the concrete at protests, or by voting.
