@permacomputer Can I suggest dropping the "70s" from the "What is"? (As a Board member of Permaculture Australia, very much 2020s and looking forward).

In my free time, I sometimes hack on a chess engine. I've written ~10k lines of Rust for that project.

Meanwhile in the 70s...

Please enjoy the first zine produced by the People's Permacomputer Project.

It is intended for educational instruction for children.

Digital literacy is a very important life skill, and we hope to contribute to better human-computer interfacing.

Maybe a silly idea, but once a reasonable text editor is running on the hardware, perhaps software development could be fine exclusively on the permacomputer itself?

Good morning everyone 🌞

Thinking about the @permacomputer project today.

Had occasion to be reminded of https://gigatron.io/ , and it made me think, perhaps something similar could be designed...

The People's Permacomputer Project sponsors the Solarpunk BASIC Programming Archive.

You can find the link to the archive in our project profile metadata.

Looking through the logs, many people seem to enjoy the BASIC archive.

Should you feel generous, think about following the project […]

Turtle graphics.

Text editors.

Simulations.

Simple art programs.

Just some of the most interesting topics I have unearthed about BASIC since the big plunge.

I changed the direction of research for the people's permacomputer project from hardware to software, due to the conclusion that the […]

Thoughts that are on my mind---

FORTH and block editors.

Make a little Common Lisp web app.

The power cable for the MacBook I got from AliExpress does not fit the socket. It is not the right one.

The K-1000 USB keyboard for the people's permacomputer project's first model of computer does […]

Thinking about:

- One dimensional BASIC dungeon crawlers.
- Tiny text editors written in BASIC.
- Thought journals written in BASIC.
- The 3D printed case for the people's permacomputer.
- Repairing my old X230 laptop when the parts get here.
- What can fit in 2K or 4K RAM?
- Have a second try […]

Been thinking about the permacomputer project, and attempting to find ways to continue carrying it out in ways that spark joy.

It occurs to me that a discrete transistor computer is nothing but a novelty, really. It does not necessarily forward the research much.

Ideas:

Maybe some engagement […]

Been working on the permacomputer website.

I finished the privacy policy, the FAQ page, and cobbled together a quick introduction post for the index page.

I have also been studying the PCC Sept 1975 article on Tiny BASIC.

I am pretty sure I can write my own Tiny BASIC for uxn. It makes a lot […]

Good morning everyone 🌞

I hope I am right about this. The light bulb moment happened. I think I am going to be able to write the Tiny BASIC I need for the people's permacomputer project.

I have spent the last 48 hours scribbling furiously into my journal. I have now run out of pages.

Bob […]

things to look into:

- arduino recreation of kim-1, the "kim uno"

(a potential portable permacomputer)

- ulisp on the LILYGO TTGO VGA32 ESP32 board (!!!)

Thinking about word processors and text editors written in Tiny BASIC.

I have quite a collection.

You can see them all here:

Perhaps it is time to write my own.

It would be written in this: […]

thoughts on the people's permacomputer project.

the project has been preparing, and has had some success at making discrete transistor logic circuits.

a related but as-yet not discussed element of the permacomputer project is the creation of a discrete […]

did some recording of things i had been working on from off the top of my head for years.

Not quite sure, but I think I have stumbled on perhaps the next phase of the people's permacomputer project.

Consider: a modular discrete transistor computer system/platform.

Diode transistor logic. This I am making out of 2N3904 bipolar junction […]

Beep, I think I can do some sort of word processor in BASIC.

It will be for the @permacomputer project.

Quickwriter for the Apple II, which I dug out of a 1980s issue of Nibble Magazine, gave me the idea to use LOCATE. I am not sure why I did not consider this element before.

I think I might […]
