We were lucky to get most of our trees from a government reforesting program, which included protective sleaves. That's where most of our persimmons and service berries came from - and it's very cool those were options.

bought the first persimmons of the season (and they do not taste good) I kinda suspected it but at least they aren't the kind of unripe that makes your tongue fuzzy, just a bit tasteless😂

I sadly DON'T have a recipe, but I had a jam years back that paired persimmons and rose hips with a bit of cardamom that turned out beautifully.

i grew up with a lot of fruit trees and because we'd get literally like thousands of plums/apricots (persimmons also do this) at once, we'd dice them up and freeze them in baggies to make into jams later

The lake park's foraging native walnut and persimmon trees are doing very poorly this year- the walnuts are few, the persimmons are very small- but are fine just a mile and a half away. 🤷♀️

I wish I had fruiting American persimmon trees. American persimmons are considered the ultimate persimmon in the world, better than all Asian varieties. But usually wild persimmons are all one sex or the other. Less common to have both sexes together and capable of fruiting.

Ooooo really? :0 I usually go for hachiyas because they get all soft and sweet and you can eat them with a spoon. I still adore fuyu tho. I also forage the local persimmons here when they’re in season

Oh gods, I'm trying to find out how to like persimmons more. I had one perfectly ripe heart shaped one once and I'm in search for the same experience again. Every other has been so disappointing.

Korean pears are less grainy, so I handle them better. I am not fond of fruit that is too mealy or grainy. Persimmons are especially bad at this.

btw the joke here is Genjo hates astringent persimmons, and since Haruomi's disgust for curry had a real reason behind it, i've been joking with friends about them all beating Genjo with an astringent persimmon.
