Pfeffernusse are my favorite holiday cookies, especially with my gran's recipe! The ones from the store are always kinda dry, but still good.

ok i actually looked it up and apparently i was thinking of peppernuts/Pfeffernüsse! my grandma made them both in crunchy and soft varieties and didn’t know what they were called either bc her parents were forced to stop speaking German after ww1, thus my confusion lol

Hmmm.. I did make some double chocolate cookies one day, and put pfeffernüsse seasoning in it (cinnamon, cardamome, white pepper, anise, clove, ginger, etc)
And it tasted amazing.
So I definitely could see a chocolate spice cake...

Das kann ich bedenkenlos unterschreiben. Hier waren die Sommerferien noch lange nicht zuende, da war bei Aldi schon Weihnachten. Adventskalender, Dominosteine, Pfeffernüsse, Lebkuchen und Spekulatius. 🙄🙄
My great grandparents on my dad's side were German but there was very little "German culture" in my upbringing, other than being forced to eat sauerkraut sometimes (horrible) and my Grandma making pfeffernusse for Christmas (delicious)

Hello Molly, yes, you are right. 16 weeks until Christmas isn't much. But Aldi was VERY early with the Christmas treats this year. The summer holidays weren't even over before *Dominosteine*, gingerbread, *Pfeffernüsse*, and heaps of other Christmas sweets were already available. 🙄
