Since we are still talking about it, wanted to re-up this. I don't fault the creators of this map but it is equally true that in some cases, investigators and scholars have moral obligations that require going beyond relying on Census categories. #SurveillanceEthics #PHEthx
I teach about data justice in public health and population-level surveillance. One of the fascinating features of surveillance ethics is that both too much AND too little surveillance can raise justice problems. Data disaggregation can be a moral obligation to avoid erasing entire communities.

“The law says school districts are responsible for finding “partnerships to provide low-cost EKGs to each student,” and students are exempt if the school district cannot obtain them for less than $50 per student. But the real issue isn’t the cost of the EKG. It’s everything that comes after.”
Florida is the first state to require EKGs for high school athletes. It's a mistake
“There are better ways for schools to protect student athletes,” writes Katherine Hofmann.
