I'll just remind everyone that the concepts of phishing and social engineering exist, and opening a scam website who says the only way you can opt out is by sending them an email address and other identifying info is Suspicious.

The Knicks phishing email story is crazy 😭
October 30, 2026 at 5:44 PM
Knicks players should send Dolan an email with a link to choose dates for a White House visit, but when he clicks, it's a mandatory anti-phishing training.

🎃Trick or treat?🎃

It’s also a phishing scam!!
So ao3.life has scraped the entirety of ao3 and is offering shitty audiobook versions of every fic
I had everything archive locked on ao3 and it's still all here and I as the author have 0 control over any of my fics on there.
This is absolutely not ok and needs to be taken down immidiately.

As the replies point out, to have your fic removed they tell you to use the email associated with your ao3 account, something they would have no way to verify.

This looks suspiciously like a phishing scam depending on your outrage to overwhelm your common sense.
Authors, please check ao3[dot]life for your work. All of mine is there. It’s an AI-generated website with 15 MILLION fics, some of which they are turning into audio books to monetize.
I am literally sick to my stomach.

Real opportunity to make a phishing website from FreedomPowerEagleIndustries offering Free! Tactical Gear to agents, just click here and enter name and address
November 1, 2026 at 2:58 PM
Just to make it clear - afaik, your email doesn’t show up on ao3, so their demand to email them from that address is likely phishing. Multiple people have reported the whole thing to the OTW, let’s hope their legal team handles it.

Let's hear it for Lambeth Council. Yesterday I received a Phishing email cos the account of the mayor had been hacked. Today the council sends out an email to hundreds of recipients re the incident with all the addresses open on CC. It's a bigger security breach than the original phishing email.

Holy shit you guys. Do NOT go to that AO3 dot life website.

Not as a reader, not as a writer. It’s a phishing site that yes probably has all the fics you’re looking for but it’s also stealing all your info.

Do! Not! Go!

“This was written by AI so this is probably some Phishing Scam” *Deletes*
I cannot stress this enough -- if you are using AI to write your emails you send to authors -- even if you are a legit podcast, or reviewer, or anything really -- we are not even reading them.

We get an influx every fucking day and we just don't read them now. We glance, see the AI & delete.

Actually who's gunna give me odds it's a vibe coded phishing site and their malware doesn't work lmaoo
Guys that Ao3life takedown form asks for your email registered with Ao3. Which is not public information. The only entity that would have that info besides Ao3 is someone who had breached Ao3. It is 100000% not a legit takedown form, do not engage with it. Report it to Ao3 and/or their domain host.
I know nothing for certain but I'm pretty clicking that ao3life takedown link is a very bad idea, guys, please be careful out there

Starting today, free sites have a more relaxed Content Security Policy, allowing widgets, third-party analytics, etc.

The stricter policy was to prevent phishing. We now have a full-time moderation and support team to deal with this instead.

Don't do anything too scary with it. Happy Halloween!

Also worth pointing out that the website that is generating all this fanfic copyright discourse is almost certainly a phishing scam. Do not submit any personal information to that website. Do not even click the link.

In an exciting development, I'm now getting phishing emails intended for The Other Hutton. This represents a fresh frontier for AI, as it was previously only humans that confused us.

sufficiently advanced dad emails are indistinguishable from weird phishing attempts.
Really good dad email

Heads up: I received a Google sharing link on Bluesky that redirected to a site flagged for crypto phishing. Even familiar accounts can be compromised. #TTRPG #CyberSpace #Phishing

Fuck’s sake. All of my fics are on that phishing AO3 site.
