これはエリディアンの生態から言っても妥当な解釈だと思う。主に睡眠の見守り習慣において。

エリディアンと（メイト2名もしくは子を含む3,4名からなる）核家族構成は折り合いが悪い。エリディアンは睡眠を交代でとり、互いに見守り合う必要がある。核家族だと他のメンバーの睡眠見守りの負荷が大きい。エリディアンの眠りは不定期で、相方が仕事や用事で家を空けることもあるだろうし、眠る1名見守る1名で回すと予期しない眠りを取りこぼすリスクがある。

Grace gets more comfortable in his rocking chair, watching his family. From the pile of them, Rocky rumbles a little, tilting in Grace’s direction. “Your heart is going faster,” Rocky comments sleepily, voice all low tones. “I’m just happy,” Grace tells him. “Everything turned out okay.” or: a point of view for each pebble on a random day in their lives, plus one day with the whole family all together.
