It's another #MundieMonday which means it's time for another🌟Star Bite!🌟

This week's prompt was requested by two separate #EpithetErased readers:

🌟"Yoomtah teaches Naven's class while he's sick."🌟

Artwork by @fuzzyminte.bsky.social
🔽Full 4-page story below! 🔽
Yoomtah cartwheels into the toy store as "Miss Y", a substitute teacher. She has pink hair and a bright electrical "teaching outfit" of glasses and a sweatervest. She pinballs around the toy store left and right before settling in a sparkling pose in front of Molly, Phoenica, and Trixie, who stare blankly at her.

Phoenica is covered with what I’ll call “mana burns”, unnaturally darkened skin in vascular patterns that she thinks are “sometimes a bit much” but doesn’t resent them and can hide them fairly easily with magic, but sometimes they’re part of the outfit

this is more of a mousy brown but Victor’s hair is supposed to be teetering on the edge of dirty blonde and then Phoenica is definitely blonde but I haven’t drawn her in 10000 years

This week: What Phoenica and Trixie get up to after the ending of "Prison of Plastic".

Art by @brokenmercy.bsky.social
PROMPT: "The Neo Trio walk into a bar to commiserate their troubles in film noir fashion" - Flammable Zucchini "What Trixie and Phoenica get up to when Molly's busy" - VH An image of Phoenica and Trixie, two twelve year olds, at a candy bar. Phoenica holds up a shot glass full of milk and shouts for another round. Trixie reacts with surprise. TEXT: Trixie Roughhouse had been walking around the neighborhood in search of her friend for the better part of an hour. Now they were here, smack dab in the bad part of town. Trixie lowered their head and mumbled in a scary voice. “Whatever part of town I’m in is the bad part of town.” It paid to practice your intimidation tactics every day. You never know when you might need them. Trixie tilted their face up and down, strategically catching the sunlight at different angles so the shadows fell in an optimally scary way. “Oh? Is this the bad part of town? I hadn’t noticed since I . . . never leave it.” Their bang flipped the wrong way. Take two. “I hadn’t noticed since I’m . . . always here. Because I’m bad.” Eh. There was something there. Trixie shrugged and let the shadows fall from their face. They’d mess with one-liners later. They rounded the corner and their destination was in sight: The Juice Joint. The Joint was a bar run out of an old train car. It was an authentic dining car taken from a real train so space in the venue was small, but that was fine. So was the clientele. The neighborhood kids had transformed it into a PG speakeasy, exchanging drinks and snacks for academic “favors”. More cheat sheets and test answers passed through this place than the teacher’s lounge. The school district knew all about the Joint, but they let it stay in operation. The forward-thinking educators of Sweet Jazz decided that a safe environment to teach kids about bribery and embezzlement (two of the city’s primary exports) was more important than making sure they had every part of their times tables memorized. The Joint had been proudly serving anyone ages seven to seventeen for years. If you were over six feet tall, you needed an ID to verify your age if you wanted to get in. A badly-drawn cardboard skeleton mascot hanging over the door welcomed customers inside. Ordinarily Phoenica Fleecity’s little goodie two-shoes wouldn’t be caught walking within five miles of this place, but this had been a rough week. She might be nearby. Trixie’s suspicions were confirmed when they spotted a bike leaning against a telephone pole: Baby blue with all the fixings: Sparkly streamers, high-quality banana seat, a bell, water bottle holder. Heck, stick a trading card in the spokes and this was about as top-of-the-line as a bike could get. Primo target for stealing. In fact, it was so good that it was suspicious. The owner hadn’t even locked it up (typical Feenie). A crowd of adolescent would-be bike thieves were gathered around in a circle, staring at it. Was this a trap? A sting operation? Should one of them risk it? Trixie cut into the circle of bikestanders (bike bystanders) and lifted up the frame, walking away with it. “A-thank you,” they said, waddling the bike over to the Joint’s bouncer, Brick. Brick Hamshunkle, who both looked and sounded like his name would imply, held up a rectangular hand and growled as Trixie approached. “Eyy, c’mon, Roughhouse. We don’t want no trouble.” Every single one of Trixie’s older siblings had been banned from the Joint during their school days. Broken windows, broken glasses, broken bones. By the time Trixie was old enough to attend, they had been added to the ban list on relation alone as a cautionary measure. (cont.) That’s fine. It wasn’t like Trixie wanted to work at the skeleton-themed candy bar mixing potions and drinks for people. It definitely hadn’t been their dream job since they were five, or anything. And you bet your bottom dollar that Trixie didn’t have a notebook in their bedside drawer full of recipes for concoctions they made up specifically to be served at this place some day if they changed their minds. It’s cool. Whatever. “My friend’s in there,” Trixie blinked. “Friend?” the bouncer scrunched his face up, unbelieving. Then he saw the bike. “Oh, yeah. Fleecity. Came in and bought three rounds for the whole bar.” Trixie frowned. Wow. Okay. Cool. So the school tattletale is allowed inside the cheater bar so long as she pays her way in? Cool, great bouncing. They winced at their own mental venom and swallowed it back down. That was mean. It wasn’t Feenie’s fault they couldn’t go in. “Won’t be a minute,” Trixie smiled. They shoved Phoenica’s bike into Brick’s hands before he could protest. “Hold that.” “H-Huh?” The little outlaw disappeared into the bar, draping their purple hood over their face to hide their giveaway red hair. It was lively. The smell of bubblegum, boxcar metal, and tweenage hormones lindy-hopped to a jukebox tune. Everyone was enjoying their free snack packages and juice boxes. Trixie’s singular eye scanned the bar. Behind the assortment of multicoloredcandy jars was an ancient wall of “BANNED!” posters featuring hand-drawn images of her siblings in their younger days. Even her twin brother was up there. Rex had literally never been inside this place before. Unfair. If there was an opportunity Trixie was gonna rip that one down for sure. The hooded figure’s plotting was interrupted by a girlish wail from the far side of the bar. “Steward! Another one! Another, I say!” (cont.) Phoenica Fleecity raised an empty can of bubble water in the air, then flopped down, splaying her lanky arms across the countertop. She had a single-digit number of hairs out of place, which for her was an emotional crisis. Trixie appeared at her side like a one-eyed emotional support whack-a-mole. “Feenie, what’re ya doin’ here?” “Hm? . . . Trixie?!” Phoenica jumped. She rubbed her own eyes and fixed her posture, embarrassed to be seen in this condition. “I thought—” She had enough wherewithal to lean down and whisper. “I thought you weren’t allowed?” “I’m allowed,” they lied. “Why weren’t you answering texts?” “Oh, my dear!” she flailed. “I’m in a state. Molly’s been absent from school for two whole days now! I don’t know where to deliver her homework. She’s been kidnapped by a miscreant, and I can’t stop thinking about her grades. It’s affecting my composure. I can barely sleep! And I . . . !” Phoenica looked left and right with conspiratorial mania in her eyes. “Can you keep a secret?” “Ya.” Phoenica dug one of her many identical cell phones out of her pockets and messily thumbed through her gallery. “We had a pop quiz today. A pop quiz! Ten questions. Math. Easy. And look. Look at this!” She pulled up a photo and shoved it in Trixie’s face. A photo of a test. It was blurry. Her hand was probably shaking when she took it. “I got two of the questions wrong. Two! That’s a ‘B’. Eighty percent! Or at least I think it is. But why should you believe me? The math fraud!” She slammed her fist on the table. “Bartender! No more of this cheap seltzer! I want a glass of milk!” (cont. in reply. Trixie grabbed her arm immediately. “Feenie, no.” This was serious. Phoenica loved milk but very rarely drank it. She had the kind of lactose intolerance that could knock you horizontal with nausea for a full afternoon. Her body would rather deal with a knife in her stomach than a cheese stick. If she was drinking milk, she was ready to jump off the deep end. Phoenica jingled her purse against the table. “Your strongest proof, please!” “Uh . . .” The bartender skimmed through the fridge. “We got 1% and 2%.” “Two percent!” Feenie shouted. “Why not? It’s all the same to me, apparently. In fact, I’d like to order fifty. Fifty glasses! You hear that, Belletrix? I’ll be getting to one hundred percent tonight one way or another.” “Phoenica,” Trixie grabbed her by the shoulders and looked her dead in the eye. “If you get all hopped up on moocow the only thing you’ll get is 100% tummy hurty.” The bartender filled up a shot glass despite Trixie’s warnings. “It’s what I deserve!” Phoenica cried in anguish, lifting the glass. Trixie dove for it and the two of them scuffled, but Phoenica won out in the end, tossing the entire thing back in a single gulp. She wiped the white mustache off her lip. “Take me away, my sweet alabaster poison.” Phoenica slammed against the countertop like a flapjack like the drink had instantly killed her. “Feenie, c’mon,” Trixie put an arm around her, taking care not to rock her back and forth. “Molly’s gonna be fine. I have Giovanni’s number. I can get her the homework.” “Really?” Phoenica stared up at her with teary eyes as the bartender poured her a second cup. Trixie subtly pushed it away. “Don’t worry. Molly’s smart. Even if she wants to stay kidnapped, she’s not gonna not go to school. That’s too conspicuous. And if Molly’s good at anything, it’s staying under the radar. Right?” “I suppose . . .” “I got some beads and stuff at home if you wanna make bracelets or something.” Phoenica stared into the middle distance like a soldier remembering war. “I do want to make bracelets or something. Oh, Trixie. I should have called you right away instead of turning to the devil in the carton. You’re a good friend.” “I’m the best friend,” Trixie corrected, opening their arms for a hug. Phoenica fell into them and draped herself over Trixie’s shoulder. “Yay.” “Yay,” Trixie parroted. Pat pat. Feenie sunk against her friend’s tiny shoulder like a weighted blanket, then a moment later her entire body shivered up and down. Trixie looked up at her. “Tummy hurty?” “Tummy hurty,” Feenie replied with eyes the size of planets. “Oookay,” Trixie hopped off the barstool. “Let’s get you home. I can fix you up a tummy fix-y potion way better than anything this place has on tap.” “Thank you . . .” Feenie flopped over. Trixie led her out by the hand and Phoenica followed behind like a puppy left out in the rain. “You are nice to me . . .” “I’m nice to everybody,” Trixie said. “I fix-a da problems. Fixie Roughhouse. That’s what they call me.” They blinked, remembering another problem that needed solving. “Hand me twenty dollars real fast?” Phoenica, still flopped over, wordlessly lifted her purse. Trixie reached in and pulled out a wad of bills. “Hey. Keep the change!” Trixie crumpled up the dollar and tossed it to the far side of the room. The bartender sprinted over, missing the initial toss and scrambling for it as the wad bounced across the floor. While the barkeep’s back was turned, Trixie hopped up onto the counter and grabbed a long sticky taffy from a nearby jar. They wound it up like a lasso and snapped it like a whip, landing a glob of sticky taffy straight between the poorly-drawn eyes of her twin brother’s ban poster. They yanked back and tore the paper clean off, stuffing it into their pocket. The deed was done in seconds. Candy experts don’t need more than a few seconds. The girls were gone before the Bartender turned his back. Trixie would come back and get their own poster taken down, eventually. But right now they needed to get home and mix up something special. Their favorite customer was waiting. (end text)
